THE ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS RECEIVED A DONATION FROM THE LEONA M. HELMSLEY CHARITABLE TRUST, ALONG WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CENTER FOR RESUSCITATION MEDICINE. THE DEPARTMENT WAS GRANTED FREE AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS, OR AED’S, ONE FOR EACH OFFICER IN THE DEPARTMENT.
ON FRIDAY, THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE RELEASED AN UPDATE ON THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE DEATHS OF AN INDIAN FAMILY ON JANUARY 19, FOUND 40 FEET NORTH OF THE US-CANADA BORDER NEAR EMERSON, MANITOBA. THE INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED THAT THEY WERE LOOKING TO CROSS THE BORDER AN BE PICKED UP BY VAN BY STEVE SHAND, WHO HAD BEEN ARRESTED A DAY EARLIER IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA. THE INVESTIGATION ALSO FOUND THAT FAMILY HAD ARRIVED IN CANADA IN TORONTO ON JANUARY 12, AND REMAINED THERE UNTIL JANUARY 15, BUT THEY CANNOT FIND HOW THEY TRAVELED WEST TO WHERE THEY DIED. ALL COMMERICAL FORMS OF TRAVEL HAVE BEEN VERIFIED. THEY ARE ASKING ANYONE WHO HAS INFORMATION ON THAT SPAN FROM JANUARY 15 TO 19 TO COME FORWARD.
THE MINNESOTA SUPREME COURT HAS RULED THAT ROSEAU COUNTY AND KITTSON COUNTY MUST SEND NEW, CORRECTED BALLOTS TO THOSE WHO HAD RECEIVED INCORRECT BALLOTS IN THE MAIL. THOSE WHO HAVE NOT RETURNED THE INCORRECT BALLOT WILL RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO USE THE NEW ONE, AND THOSE WHO HAD ALREADY RETURNED THE INCORRECT BALLOT CAN CONTACT THE COUNTY TO SPOIL THE INCORRECT BALLOT IF THEY SO CHOOSE.
THE ORIGINAL BALLOTS HAD LEFT OFF POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS FOR SOME FEDERAL AND STATE CANDIDATES AND ALSO FAILED TO LABEL INCUMBENTS IN RACES FOR JUDICIAL SEATS, AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
A GRAVESIDE SERVICE FOR SHELDON HANSON WILL BE HELD THIS WEDNESDAY (4 PM) AT ST JOSEPH’S CEMETERY IN BENWOOD.
THE ROSEAU TIMES REGION HAS A STORY ON CONTINUED DUST POLLUTION COMPLAINTS AGAINST NORFARM SEEDS. LAST WEEK, SPRUCE TOWNSHIP HELD A MEETING WHERE THEY HEARD FROM THREE RESIDENTS WHO LIVE NEARBY. NORFARM SEEDS HAS TAKEN SOME STEPS TO CURB THE PROBLEM, BUT NOT A LEVEL THAT IS SATISFYING THE RESIDENTS. THERE IS SOME ACTIVE LITIGATION AGAINST NORFARM SEEDS BY THE MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL AGENCY.
DIVA DAY IN ROSEAU IS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5 AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER FROM 10:00-3:00. ORGANIZED BY THE ROSEAU WOMEN OF TODAY, THEY’LL HAVE OVER 40 VENDORS ON SITE WITH EVERYTHING FROM FOOD, CLOTHING, TO HOME, HEALTH, AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES.
THE ROSE FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH IS SERVING A BAKED POTATO BAR AND CHILI FEED THIS SATURDAY FROM 4-7. MONEY RAISED WILL GO TOWARDS THEIR STAINED GLASS RESTORATION PROJECT.
