GOVERNOR WALZ ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE TAX REBATES IN MINNESOTA WILL BEGIN THIS WEEK. THOSE REBATES ARE TIED TO THE MASSIVE BUDGET SURPLUS FROM THE 2021 TAX SEASON AND ARE COMING IN THE AMOUNT OF $260 PER ELIGIBLE PERSON, $520 FOR A MARRIED COUPLE AND ANOTHER $260 FOR UP TO THREE DEPENDENTS. THOSE WHO RECEIVE VIA DIRECT DEPOSIT WILL BE FIRST, THEN PAPER CHECKS WILL BE PROCESSED.
36-YEAR OLD KEVIN CORONA OF CROOKSTON HAS BEEN FOUND COMPETENT AHEAD OF A POTENTIAL TRIAL. CORONA IS ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTING TO MURDER HIS MOTHER ANGIE GONZALEZ IN MARCH. POLICE ARRIVED THAT DAY TO FIND CORONA WITH HIS HANDS AROUND HER NECK, A KNIFE ON THE GROUND, AND SHE HAD LACERATIONS TO HER FACE, NECK, AND ABDOMEN. HE’S CHARGED WITH BOTH A FIRST-DEGREE MURDER COUNT AND SECOND-DEGREE MURDER, BOTH CARRY A MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 20 YEARS.

A Funeral Service for Florence M. Haukaas of Baudette, MN will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 12:00PM at Pitt Community Church in Pitt. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 5-7PM with a prayer service starting at 6PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be held at Pitt Cemetery.
Florence passed away at the age of 98.
A Funeral Service for John D. Foster of Greenbush, MN will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
John passed away at the age of 60.
