THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  SET AN OCTOBER 13TH PUBLIC HEARING AS PART OF VACATING A SMALL PORTION OF OLD HIGHWAY ELEVEN IN JADIS TOWNSHIP. THAT ROADWAY,  NEAR ROSE CHURCH,  HAS BEEN DETERIORATING.

ROSEAU COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS ARE NEXT MONTH IN WARROAD,  ROSEAU,  BADGER AND GREENBUSH. MOST TYPES OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS MATERIALS  (INCLUDING PAINT,  CLEANERS AND POISONS)  ARE ACCEPTED FREE OF CHARGE.

SCHOOLS IN ROSEAU COUNTY CONTINUE WORKING TOWARD IN-PERSON LEARNING IN SEPTEMBER; AS THEY NAVIGATE THE CONCERNS OVER COVID-19. GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER SUPERINTENDENT LARRY GUGGISBERG HAS BEEN IN THE EDUCATION BUSINESS FOR NEARLY FORTY YEARS;  HE SAYS HE’S NEVER DEALT WITH A PANDEMIC.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS THIS EVENING.

THE CENTER FOR RURAL POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT RECENTLY PUBLISHED AN ARTICLE THAT SAYS  WAGES GO FARTHER IN GREATER MINNESOTA,  DESPITE LOWER MEDIAN WAGES IN RURAL PARTS OF THE STATE.   THE REPORT SAYS COUNTIES IN WESTERN AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA HAVE A MUCH LOWER COST OF LIVING THAT IN THE METRO. CHILD CARE AND HOUSING COSTS ARE TWO FACTORS THAT DRIVE DOWN THAT COST OF LIVING, BUT ARE ALSO LESS AVAILABLE IN MANY PARTS OF GREATER MINNESOTA.

FORMER STATE LEGISLATOR  MARTY  SEIFERT WAS IN ROSEAU LAST MONTH,  MEETING WITH THE ROSEAU ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY. SEIFERT SAYS HIS ORGANIZATION,  THE COALITION OF GREATER MINNESOTA CITIES,  HAS LOBBIED TO CORRECT DISPARITIES IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AID FORMULA. THE CITY OF ROSEAU IS SLATED TO RECEIVE ABOUT TWENTY THOUSAND MORE  L.G.A.  DOLLARS IN 2021.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  EARLIER THIS MONTH,  APPROVED A SMALL CITIES GRANT AGREEMENT –  WHICH ALLOWS COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL REHAB PROJECTS TO BEGIN.     THERE IS  625 THOUSAND DOLLARS AVAILABLE IN ROSEAU.

A DEADLINE TO RENEW SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE  AND MINNESOTA FAMILY INVESTMENT APPLICATIONS IS APPROACHING,  AFFECTING ABOUT TWENTY THOUSAND MINNESOTANS. COLLEEN MORIARTY,  WITH HUNGER SOLUTIONS MINNESOTA,  SAYS THERE WAS HOPE THE  U.S.D.A. WOULD OFFER ANOTHER WAIVER
