THE ROSEAU SCHOOL STARTS A HYBRID LEARNING MODEL TODAY,  AFTER CONFIRMED CORONAVIRUS CASES JUMPED IN ROSEAU COUNTY OVER THE PAST TEN DAYS. SUPERINTENDENT TOM JEROME SAYS THE GUIDANCE FOR THAT MOVE TO HYBRID FOR GRADES SEVEN THROUGH TWELVE IS CLEAR …. ROSEAU SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE EATING FREE LUNCHES,  THANKS TO A  U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE PROGRAM; WHICH WILL PROVIDE FUNDING FOR MEALS UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR,  OR UNTIL FUNDING RUNS OUT. MEANWHILE DISTRICTS ARE ASKING FAMILIES TO FILL OUT A FREE AND REDUCED APPLICATION.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY AUDITOR’S OFFICE SAYS ABSENTEE BALLOTING FOR THE NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION  BEGINS FRIDAY.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SAYS MINNESOTA EXPORTS WERE DOWN EIGHTEEN PERCENT IN THE SECOND QUARTER OF THE YEAR,  WHEN COMPARED TO THE SECOND QUARTER OF  2019.THE TWO LARGEST TRADE MARKETS IN THE SECOND QUARTER WERE CANADA AND CHINA.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETS THIS EVENING. THE AGENDA INCLUDES A DISCUSSION ON THE PRICING OF LOTS IN THE PLANNED NEW OAK CREST HOUSING SUBDIVISION.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  HEARD FROM NORTHWEST REGIONAL LIBRARY DIRECTOR JIM TROJANOWSKI.

THE LIBRARY SYSTEM IS SEEKING A TWO PERCENT FUNDING INCREASE FOR  2021. THERE ARE PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN WARROAD,  ROSEAU AND GREENBUSH. TROJANOWSKI SAYS THE NORTHWEST LIBRARY SYSTEM HASN’T HAD A FUNDING INCREASE FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA SINCE  2009.

AMONG A HANDFUL OF NEW FACES AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THIS FALL IS K-12 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JOE BRODERICK, WHO’S BEEN A PRINCIPAL AND SUPERINTENDENT AT OTHER MINNESOTA DISTRICTS DURING HIS CAREER; AND WHO IS BACK IN EDUCATION AFTER SEVERAL YEARS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR … A  BREAKTHROUGH RECOVERY PROGRAM AT THE ROSEAU COMMUNITY CHURCH CONTINUES THIS EVENING  (7 PM).

ST PAUL MAYOR MELVIN CARTER’S PLAN TO PROVIDE GUARANTEED INCOME TO  150 LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS IN HIS CITY,  USING  “CARES”  ACT MONEY,  WAS SCUTTLED LAST WEEK BY THE ST PAUL CITY COUNCIL  –AFTER QUESTIONS WERE RAISED BY CONGRESSWOMAN BETTY McCOLLUM. CARTER WAS HOPING TO COMPLEMENT EXISTING ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS … McCOLLUM’S LETTER TO THE ST PAUL COUNCIL QUESTIONED WHETHER  “CARES”  ACT FUNDING COULD BE USED FOR THAT PURPOSE. IN ROSEAU COUNTY,  MOST OF THE  “CARES”  ACT DOLLARS ARE EARMARKED FOR SMALL BUSINESSES IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAS ANOTHER COFFEE AND CONVERSATION VIRTUAL MEETING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON  (3-4 PM)  ON THE HIGHWAY  ELEVEN PROJECT IN THE CITY OF WARROAD SCHEDULED FOR  2023.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS LOOKING FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON IT’S  FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION PLAN FOR DISTRICT TWO,  WHICH INCLUDES ROSEAU COUNTY  (AND THIRTEEN OTHER COUNTIES IN NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA).THE AGENCY’S GOAL IS A FREIGHT TRANSPORT SYSTEM THAT ATTRACTS NEW BUSINESSES AND HELPS EXISTING BUSINESS GROW THEIR PRESENCE IN THIS PART OF THE STATE. MINN-DOT SAYS THE REGION RELIES HEAVILY ON FREIGHT-DEPENDENT INDUSTRIES.
