Today’s Covid-19 Update for Wednesday, November 18 2020

11/18/2020

Roseau County has 820 Positive Cases; with 17 new cases reported today; and 1 accumulated death.

Minnesota is the 24th state to surpass 3,000 deaths. Of the 67 newly reported deaths, 51 were residents of long-term care facilities, who have accounted for 68% (2,066) of the state’s 3,010 fatal cases.

November is on pace to accumulate around 1,000 deaths. Through 18 days of reporting, the state has counted 553 COVID-19 deaths. There were 423 fatal cases reported in all of October.

The 5,102 positive results in Wednesday’s update were from a total of 37,026 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity rate of 13.78%.

Those completed tests were from 16,255 people. People are often tested more than once, so the test positivity rate when dividing positives by people tested is 31.39% today.

The World Health Organization recommended in May that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s percent positive over the past seven days is 15.28%.

Statewide:

  • Total tests: 3,543,671 (up from 3,506,178)
  • People tested: 2,204,412 (up from 2,188,157)
  • Positive cases: 242,043 (up from 236,949)
  • Deaths: 3,010 – 49 of which are “probable*” (up from 2,943)

  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 193,869 (up from 186,680)
