THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION INVITES THE PUBLIC TO PARTICIPATE IN VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSES FOR A RESURFACING PROJECT PLANNED ON HIGHWAY ELEVEN BETWEEN ROSEAU AND WARROAD IN 2023. ALONG WITH RESURFACING, MNDOT PLANS TO CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL TURN LANES AND REALIGN THE SECTION NEAR THE ROSEAU AIRPORT. THIS PROJECT IS SEPERATE FROM THE HIGHWAY 11 PROJECT WITHIN THE CITY OF WARROAD, ALSO FOR 2023.
WITH THE CONTINUED SURGE IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE RECREATING OUTDOORS, THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES REMINDS EVERYONE THAT LAKES AND PONDS ACROSS THE STATE HAVE STARTED TO FREEZE, AND WHERE THERE ISN’T ICE, THE WATER IS DANGEROUSLY COLD. ICE THICKNESS IS HIGHLY VARIABLE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR AND CAN CHANGE DUE TO A NUMBER OF CIRCUMSTANCES. ANGLERS AND OTHERS WHO RECREATE ON THE ICE SHOULD STAY ON SHORE UNTIL THERE’S AT LEAST 4 INCHES OF NEW, CLEAR ICE.
TWO NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBES IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA ARE ASKING STATE REGULATORS TO STOP THE IMMINENT CONSTRUCTION OF ENBRIDGE ENERGY’S LINE 3 CRUDE OIL PIPELINE REPLACEMENT PROJECT. THEY SAY IT INCREASES THE RISK OF CORONAVIRUS INFECTIONS SPREADING ON THEIR RESERVATIONS. THE RED LAKE AND WHITE EARTH BANDS OF CHIPPEWA FILED A MOTION FOR AN EXPEDITED STAY OF THE PROJECT WITH THE MINNESOTA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION LATE WEDNESDAY.
