Today’s Covid-19 Update for Sunday, November 29 2020

11/29/2020

Roseau County has 1213 Positive Cases; with 21 new cases reported today; and 3 accumulated deaths.

Another 57 people have died from COVID-19 in Minnesota, with the Sunday update from the state health department also revealing nearly 9,000 new cases. However, the high total came from a single-day reporting record of 97,733 tests.

The death toll from the virus is now at 3,578. Of those, 2,407 fatal cases involved residents of long-term care facilities, including 29 of the 57 newly reported deaths Sunday.

November has far and away been Minnesota’s deadliest month, with 1,125 fatal cases. That dwarfs the 423 people who died from the disease in October.

The 8,953 positive results in Wednesday’s update were from a total of 97,733 completed tests, creating a daily test positivity rate of 9.16%.

Those completed tests were from 44,232 people. People are often tested more than once, so the test positivity rate when dividing positives by people tested is 20.2% today.

The World Health Organization recommended in May that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s percent positive over the past seven days is 10.61%, and that number has been dropping all week since peaking around 15.4%.

Statewide:

  • Total tests: 4,219,424 (up from 4,121,906)
  • People tested: 2,512,690 (up from 2,468,458)
  • Positive cases: 312,969 (up from 304,023)
  • Deaths: 3,578 – 71 of which are “probable*” (up from 3,521)
  • Active cases: 47,746 (up from 46,538)
  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 265,223 (up from 257,485)
