On January 17, 1949, Mary married Oscar J. Johnson at Bethel Covenant Church in rural Falun. To this marriage were born 2 boys and 2 girls. In June of 1949, Mary, Oscar, and Oscar’s 2 sisters and families went to South Dakota to visit relatives and then on to Yellowstone. It was a fun trip for all. Oscar passed away on October 18, 1968.
On December 4, 1971, she married Paul Lennart Mattson at the old Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau. Mary and Lennart enjoyed many trips to Wisconsin to see her relatives. Mary and Lennart loved to go dancing and spent many a Saturday night dancing to old time music. Lennart passed away on September 19, 1991.
Mary loved to bake. Her specialty was buns. She always would have homemade goodies to serve with her coffee. She loved having company at her house.
In the summer Mary always had a big garden and a raspberry patch which she picked and sold for 25 cents a quart. Many days before the fair found the Johnson family out picking blueberries for money for the fair. She always packed a lunch so nobody starved while picking blueberries!
