THE ROSEAU COUNTY FAIR POSTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA YESTERDAY THAT FAIR THIS SUMMER IS A GO. THE DATES WILL RUN JULY 18-23. ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON GRANDSTAND EVENTS, THE MIDWAY, OR SAFETY MEASURES WERE NOT MADE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

 

THE MASSIVE POLK COUNTY GRASS FIRE ON MONDAY BURNED AN ESTIMATED 14,000 ACRES, BUT DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES WAS MINIMAL. THE BRADFORD FARM, JUST WEST OF HIGHWAY 32, LOST ALL OF THEIR HAY AND WOODPILE, SOME SMALL EQUIPMENT, BUT ALL LIVESTOCK AND STRUCTURES WERE SAVED. CREWS STILL WORKED THROUGH PARTS OF YESTERDAY AFTERNOON TO KEEP DOWN ANY FLARE UPS.

 

MINNESOTA OPENED UP THE VACCINE ELIGIBILITY TO EVERYONE 16 AND OLDER YESTERDAY. THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS HAS ANNOUNCED THAT TWO PROPOSED VETERANS HOMES IN MINNESOTA’S SEVENTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT WILL RECEIVE FEDERAL FUNDING UNDER THE DEPARTMENT’S VA STATE HOME CONSTRUCTION GRANT PROGRAM. THE STATE OF MINNESOTA WILL RECEIVE AN ESTIMATED $26.9 MILLION FOR A 72-BED FACILITY IN BEMIDJI AND $31.2 MILLION FOR A 72-BED FACILITY IN MONTEVIDEO. “THESE COMMUNITIES HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR MORE THAN A DECADE TO GET THIS DONE, AND I AM GLAD TO SEE THESE PROJECTS FINALLY NEARING THE FINISH LINE,” SAID CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE FISCHBACH (MN-7)

 

THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATION AND NATIONAL CENTER FOR ASSISTED LIVING (AHCA/NCAL), REPRESENTING MORE THAN 14,000 NURSING HOMES AND LONG TERM CARE FACILITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT PROVIDE CARE TO APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILLION PEOPLE EACH YEAR, RELEASED A REPORT TODAY SHOWING NURSING HOMES IN THE U.S. CONTINUE TO SEE A RAPID DECLINE IN NEW COVID-19 CASES THANKS TO INITIAL VACCINE ALLOCATIONS PRIORITIZED FOR NURSING HOMES. RECENT CMS DATA SHOWS THAT NURSING HOMES HAVE SEEN A 96 PERCENT DECLINE IN NEW COVID CASES AMONG RESIDENTS SINCE THE PEAK DURING THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 20 OF LAST YEAR WHEN THERE WERE MORE THAN 30,000 NEW RESIDENT CASES.

 

AUTHORITIES IN DULUTH ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER A MINNESOTA STATE TROOPER’S SQUAD CAR WAS DAMAGED BY GUNFIRE. POLICE SAY THE TROOPER WAS CONDUCTING A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE INSPECTION MONDAY WHEN THE VEHICLE’S DRIVER’S SIDE WINDOW WAS STRUCK AND SHATTERED. INVESTIGATORS SAID IT APPEARS THE WINDOW WAS STRUCK TWICE WITH PROJECTILES CONSISTENT WITH A BB OR PELLET GUN. NO ONE WAS INJURED. AND NO SUSPECT HAS BEEN LOCATED.

 

 

 

ORGANIZERS ANNOUNCED THAT BOTH MOONDANCE JAM AND MOONDANCE JAMMIN’ COUNTRY WILL BE HELD THIS YEAR NEAR WALKER, AFTER BEING CANCELLED LAST YEAR DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. THEY ALSO SAID THIS WILL BE THE FINAL YEAR FOR MOONDANCE JAM, AS THEY PLAN TO TRANSITION THE GROUNDS TO A SEASONAL CAMPGROUND THAT WILL FEATURE SMALLER EVENTS, BUT MORE OFTEN.
