Ronald George Schwehr passed away peacefully in Fargo, ND at the age of 75, on July 26, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Ronald was born August 6th 1945 to George and Elizabeth Schwehr in Spiritwood, ND and was the oldest of 5 children.  Ron spent his childhood growing up on the family farm in Spiritwood and attended elementary and high school in Jamestown, ND. As a child he loved playing baseball and following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

After graduating high school Ron attended NDSU and received his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and was a member of the ROTC program.  Upon graduation Ron enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant where he served 2 tours during the Vietnam War.  During his deployment Ron received multiple honors and awards to include the Bronze Star for Valor.

After his military service Ron moved back to Jamestown, ND where met a waitress, Rosella Fay Bender. Ron and Rose married in 1972 and built a family together raising 3 children, Troy, Caroline, and Robert. The couple moved to MN, as Ron would begin a 38-year career working for the US government with the FHA (Farmers Home Administration). The couple lived in Thief River Falls, Bagley, Stewartville, and put down permanent roots in Roseau in 1976 where they would spend the next 4 decades.

Ron was very active in the Roseau community where he started and managed a number of youth baseball programs for 35+ years.  During the summer Ron could always be found at one of baseball fields setting up for Thursday Night league, driving around in the old cattle truck looking for players to play in Warroad, or running the concession stand. His passion for youth baseball and love of seeing kids on the field gave him so much joy and satisfaction.  For his years of dedication to youth baseball Ron was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.  Ron also was very active in other organizations including the VFW (past post commander), Jaycees and Sacred Heart Church.

Ron is processed in death by his father George, mother Elizabeth, and brother Raymond.  He is survived by his wife Rose, children, Troy (Julie) Schwehr, Caroline (Justin) Fehlhafer, and Robert Schwehr, siblings Don (Melida) Schwehr, Lois Laches, and Linda Ratay, He is also survived by grandchildren Hunter Schwehr, Peyton Schwehr, Autumn Fehlhafer, Tanner Schwehr, and Grant Fehlhafer.
