THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD THIS WEEK RECOGNIZED VETERANS SERVICE OFFICER MARTIN HOWES FOR HIS ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE MINNESOTA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE OFFICERS. HOWES HAS SERVED AS VICE PRESIDENT OF THAT GROUP FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.
THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED A PRELIMINARY SEVEN PERCENT LEVY INCREASE FOR 2022, AND APPROVED AN EXPENDITURE BUDGET FOR NEXT YEAR OF JUST OVER TWENTY-NINE-POINT-SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS. THE STATE REQUIRES THE COUNTY TO APPROVE THOSE BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER, AND MUST FINALIZE A LEVY AND BUDGET BY THE END OF DECEMBER.
THE BOARD ALSO APPROVED IT’S UNORGANIZED TOWNSHIPS BUDGETS AND LEVIES FOR 2022; WITH SMALL TAX INCREASES IN THREE OF THOSE UNORGANIZED TOWNSHIPS.
THE SUPERINTENDENT OF TRI-COUNTY SCHOOLS IN KARLSTAD IS ON PAID LEAVE AFTER AN ARREST ON SATURDAY FOR SECOND-DEGREE DWI. MICHAEL RENE GADBOIS WAS ARRESTED WITH A BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL OF .21, WHEN HE WAS FOUND IN A SCHOOL OWNED MINIVAN ON SCHOOL PROPERTY. COURT DOCUMENTS SHOW THAT GADBOIS HAD BEEN ARRESTED FOR DWI IN 2015 AND 2017 BOTH IN ALASKA. THE DISTRICT WILL LIKELY LOOK TO A NEIGHBORING DISTRICT FOR HELP WITH LEADERSHIP AS THE INVESTIGATION AND CASE MOVE FORWARD.
THE FOOTBALL SEASON IN PROCTOR IN ON HOLD AS POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING ALLEGED MISCONDUCT BY MEMBERS OF FOOTBALL TEAM AGAINST ANOTHER MEMBER OF THAT TEAM. DETAILS ARE SCARCE AS THE INVESTIGATION INVOLVES JUVENILES. TO THIS POINT THE TEAM’S COACH REMAINS ON STAFF.

A MALUNG SCANDINAVIAN FESTIVAL IS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, WITH LIVE MUSIC, PRESENTATIONS AND CRAFT DEMONSTRATIONS. THEY’LL SERVE A POTATO DUMPLING SUPPER ON FRIDAY AND SCANDINAVIAN MEATBALL DINNER ON SATURDAY.
