THE ROSEAU PLANNING COMMISSION IS SEEKING ADVICE ON THE CITY’S ROOMING HOUSE ORDINANCES, WHICH PROHIBIT VRBO’S AND AIR BN’B’S AND PEOPLE RENTING ROOMS IN PRIVATE HOMES. A NUMBER OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES IN THE CITY ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE CURRENT CODE.
THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, RE-VISITED IT’S 2022 PRELIMINARY BUDGET, WHICH PROJECTS A SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR DEFICIT FOR NEXT YEAR, OPTIONS IN FRONT OF THE COUNCIL INCLUDE RAISING REVENUE (THROUGH THE LEVY AND UTILITY FEES), CUTTING SPENDING (WHICH WOULD MEAN LAYING OFF EMPLOYEES AND/OR ELIMINATING CAPITAL PROJECTS) OR SPENDING FROM THE RESERVE FUND. COUNCIL MEMBERS SUGGESTED AN APPROACH INCORPORATING ALL THREE OPTIONS. THE CITY’S TRUTH IN TAXATION HEARING IS DECEMBER 6TH.
THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE SALE OF TWO MORE BUILDING LOTS IN THE NEW OAKCREST ESTATES SUBDIVISION, MAKING FIVE SOLD IN THAT DEVELOPMENT THIS YEAR.
THE CITY OF ROSEAU IS STARTING THE PROCESS FOR TOWNSHIP FIRE CONTRACTS FOR NEXT YEAR. THE ROSEAU VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT SERVES A NUMBER OF TOWNSHIPS OUTSIDE THE CITY.
RESULTS FROM THE GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER SCHOOL DISTRICT REFERENDUM VOTE WERE 948 YES ON QUESTION 1 TO 350 NO, AND 904 YES ON QUESTION 2 TO 397 NO. THE SCHOOL BOARD WILL MEET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON FRIDAY MORNING.
BOTH QUESTIONS IN A WARROAD ELECTION FAILED. QUESTION 1 BY A VOTE OF 530-265. QUESTION 2 BY A VOTE OF 543-250.

THE MINNESOTA DEER HUNTERS ASSOCIATION IS AGAIN OFFERING IT’S HIDES FOR HABITAT PROGRAM WITH A NUMBER OF DROP LOCATIONS IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA, INCLUDING SMOKE SHOW MEATS IN BADGER, FARMERS UNION CENEX IN GOODRIDGE, CO-OP STORE IN GRYGLA, RIVERS EDGE BAIT AND CONVENIENCE IN GREENBUSH, THE CENEX C-STORE IN ROSEAU, THE WOODS SPORTING GOOD NEAR WARROAD, CENEX IN MIDDLE RIVER, WITH OTHERS IN STRATHCONA, NEWFOLDEN, AND MANY IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.
