EAST GRAND FORKS APPROVED THE PURCHASE OF 64 ACRES OF LAND OFF OF REINHARDT DRIVE THAT WOULD BE SECURED FOR A CONNECTION BRIDGE TO BE BUILT TO GRAND FORKS AT 32ND AVENUE SOUTH. GRAND FORKS MAYOR BRANDON BOCHENSKI STILL PREFERS A SITE THAT WOULD CONNECT FURTHER SOUTH, CITING THAT THE 32ND AVENUE SITE WOULD ENTER INTO A NEIGHBORHOOD AND SCHOOL ZONES. THE PROJECT IS STILL NOT A CERTAINTY AND HAS NO BEGIN DATE, BUT BOTH SIDES AGREE ANOTHER BRIDGE IS NEEDED.

THE MINNESOTA DNR HAS SET THE WALLEYE LIMIT FOR THE OPEN WATER SEASON ON UPPER RED LAKE AT 4, 1 OVER 20 INCHES. FISHING PRESSURE ON THE LAKE WAS HIGH OVER THE WINTER, BUT ANGLERS KEPT ONLY A MODEST NUMBER OF FISH, ALLOWING FOR A ROBUST POPULATION TO REMAIN. THAT SEASON OPENS MAY 14.

THE DEATH OF A 19 YEAR OLD FEMALE IN KANDIYOHI COUNTY OVER THE WEEKEND IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS A POSSIBLE OVERDOSE DEATH FROM ILLEGAL NARCOTICS. SHE WAS IDENTIFIED YESTERDAY AS SAMANTHA MEYERS OF PENNOCK. AUTHORITIES RESPONDED TO THAT CALL LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND FOUND THE WOMAN ALREADY DECEASED.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR GERALD D. LEVASSEUR OF BAUDETTE WILL BE HELD FRIDAY AFTERNOON (1 PM) AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN BAUDETTE FOLLOWED BY A MEMORIAL GATHERING AND MEAL. GERALD WAS 80.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JEAN TURESON OF GREENBUSH WILL BE HELD FRIDAY (11 AM) AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN GREENBUSH. VISITATION WILL BE BOTH TOMORROW EVENING (5 PM) AT THE CHURCH WITH A 7:00 PRAYER SERVICE, AND ALSO ONE HOUR PRIOR TO FRIDAY’S SERVICE.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GEORGE L. GANYO OF WARROAD WILL BE HELD THIS FRIDAY (11 AM) AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN WARROAD. VISITATION WILL BE THURSDAY (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN WARROAD, AND ALSO ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE AT THE CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL BE AT A LATER DATE.

Minnesota’s governor and U.S. senators have visited the heart of the state’s poultry country for a first-hand look at how the top turkey-producing state is fighting bird flu. Gov. Tim Walz and Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith visited an emergency operations center Tuesday in Willmar where state and federal agencies are working to contain the outbreak. They say the state is better positioned now than during the devastating 2015 outbreak, which killed 9 million birds in the state. The current outbreak has cost Minnesota turkey and chicken producers nearly 2 million birds at 40 farms.
