THE MINNESOTA SUPREME COURT HAS RULED THAT ROSEAU COUNTY AND KITTSON COUNTY MUST SEND NEW, CORRECTED BALLOTS TO THOSE WHO HAD RECEIVED INCORRECT BALLOTS IN THE MAIL. THOSE WHO HAVE NOT RETURNED THE INCORRECT BALLOT WILL RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO USE THE NEW ONE, AND THOSE WHO HAD ALREADY RETURNED THE INCORRECT BALLOT CAN CONTACT THE COUNTY TO SPOIL THE INCORRECT BALLOT IF THEY SO CHOOSE.
THE ORIGINAL BALLOTS HAD LEFT OFF POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS FOR SOME FEDERAL AND STATE CANDIDATES AND ALSO FAILED TO LABEL INCUMBENTS IN RACES FOR JUDICIAL SEATS, AS REQUIRED BY LAW. ROSEAU COUNTY AUDITOR MARTY MONSRUD SAYS 127 INCORRECT BALLOTS WERE MAILED, AND 78 HAD BEEN RETURNED. KITTSON COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BRIAN BUHMANN SAID THEY HAD MAILED 1,791 INCORRECT BALLOTS, AND 277 HAD BEEN RETURNED.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW ALTRU HOSPITAL IN GRAND FORKS, A $475 MILLION PROJECT, REMAINS ON TRACK FOR A 2024 COMPLETION, WITH FIRST PATIENTS BEING SEEN AT THE BEGINNING OF 2025. COVID-19 COMPLETELY HALTED CONSTRUCTION AT ONE POINT AND FORCED A REDESIGN.
THE CROOKSTON SCHOOL DISTRICT FINANCE COMMITTEE HAS SETTLED ON THE NUMBER OF $4.963 MILLION, THAT’S WHAT THEY WILL BE ASKING VOTERS TO APPROVE IN A FEBRUARY REFERENDUM. THAT’S A SECOND ATTEMPT AT A VOTE THAT FAILED BY ONLY A FEW VOTES IN AUGUST. HOWEVER, THAT PRICE TAG NOW IS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $1 MILLION HIGHER.
A Memorial Service for Jackie Kvien will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 2:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be at Pine Creek Cemetery.
A Funeral Service for Ron E. Prelvitz of Warroad, MN will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 4:00PM at the Warroad School Gymnasium. Visitation will be held at the school one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will take place on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Riverside Cemetery in Warroad.
Ron passed away at the age of 57.
