Arlen Severson of Roseau passed away on December 17, 2022 at the Warroad Senior Living Center at the age of 66.
Arlen Duane Severson was born April 30, 1956 in Roseau, MN to Adolph and Marie Ann (Karlstad) Severson. He grew up to adulthood with his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
Arlen attended Wannaska School until 8th grade and graduated from Roseau High School in 1974. Class reunions were a highlight for him, he often talked about his great memories of classmates. He graduated from Staples Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1976. After graduation, Arlen worked as a heavy equipment operator for a couple years then returned to the Wannaska area and drove semi for North Star Transport for a few years. He thoroughly enjoyed his time on the truck, the new areas he experienced and the people he met while driving. In the late 70s Arlen purchased land in Mickinock township and made it his home and began farming. He enjoyed farming life and took pride in the crops that he raised. He served on the Greenbush Ag. Service Board.
Arlen enjoyed many activities including fishing, bowling, skiing, and playing chess. He preferred to spend his time outdoors. His adventurous spirt led him to many different locations in the United States to visit family or a new opportunity to explore. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico for several years in the winter months, favoring Mazatlan and other smaller cities along the way. His preferred method of travel was by vehicle. Arlen enjoyed life and visiting with people to the fullest! He met many interesting new people along the way!
After Arlen was unable to continue farming due to Multiple Sclerosis, he moved to Warroad in 2003. He entered the Warroad Senior Living Center in 2008. Arlen continued to travel around on his “scooter” for many years and may have been seen uptown in Warroad or even Springsteel Resort. Even as his physical condition declined, he fought to retain his independence.
Arlen is survived by his siblings, Robert (Joanne) Severson, David (Terri) Severson, and Diane (Brian) Gregerson; Aunts, Helen Austin and Fern Severson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arlen was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A special thanks is extended to the Staff at the Warroad Senior Living Center for the great care he received during his years there.
A Funeral Service for Arlen Severson will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau on Thursday, December 22 at 2:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery.
