SENTENCING FOR ERIC REINBOLD TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY. HE WAS SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THE 2021 MURDER OF HIS WIFE LISSETTE REINBOLD. IT IS THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR HIS CHARGE. HE MUST SERVE AT LEAST TWO-THIRDS OF THAT SENTENCE IN PRISON, WHILE THE FINAL THIRD COULD BE ON SUPERVISED RELEASE.
ONE MINOR INJURY WAS REPORTED, BUT NONE MAJOR, IN A SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT IN THE BAGLEY DISTRICT. YESTERDAY MORNING THE BUS COLLIDED WITH AN SUV AT AN INTERSECTION WITH HIGHWAY 2. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE SNOW AND ICE COVERED ACCORDING TO REPORTS, BUT OTHER DETAILS OF WHAT LED TO CRASH WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE BUS WAS CARRYING NINE STUDENTS AT THE TIME.
REPRESENTATIVE MICHELLE FISHBACH HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO THE HOUSE WAYS & MEANS COMMITTEE, WHICH HAS JURISDICTION OVER TAX, TRADE, WORKFORCE, AND HEALTH POLICIES AMONG OTHERS. CHAIRMAN JASON SMITH SAID FISHBACH IS “A FIERCE ADVOCATE FOR HER CONSTITUENTS AND THE INTERESTS OF RURAL AMERICA.”
THE MAN CONVICTED IN THE 1999 KIDNAPPING AND MURDER OF A BARNUM TEENAGER HAS DIED IN A STILLWATER PRISON. NOW 73 YEARS OLD, DONALD BLOM, WAS CONVICTED OF KIDNAPPING AND MURDERING KATIE POIRER WHILE SHE WAS WORKING AN OVERNIGHT SHIFT AT A LOCAL GAS STATION. HER REMAINS WERE NEVER FOUND, BUT A TOOTH FOUND ON BLOM’S PROPERTY NEARLY A MONTH LATER WAS CONFIRMED TO HAVE COME FROM POIRER. BLOM WAS A REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER AND HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN FIVE OTHER KNOWN CASES OF KIDNAPPING OR SEXUAL ASSAULT. AUTHORITIES SAY BLOM HAD BEEN ILL AND DEATH WAS EXPECTED.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR GARY LANE OF THIEF RIVER FALLS WILL BE HELD SATURDAY (6 PM) AT JOHNSON FUNERAL SERVICE IN THIEF RIVER FALLS, WITH VISITATION ONE HOUR PRIOR. BURIAL WILL BE HELD IN THE SPRING AT LANDSTAD CEMETERY.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR PETER SMITH WILL BE HELD AT WOODLAND BIBLE CHURCH IN WARROAD ON SATURDAY (3 PM). INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT HAZELWOOD CEMETERY IN BLACKBERRY, MINNESOTA. PETER WAS 14.
GOVERNOR WALZ IS SET TO SIGN THE FIRST BILL OF THE NEW LEGISLATIVE SESSION TODAY. THAT BILL IS AIMED AT PROVIDING OVER $100 MILLION IN TAX RELIEF FOR STUDENTS AND BUSINESSES.
THE MINNESOTA DNR WILL BE CONDUCTING AERIAL SURVEYS OF THE KITTSON COUNTY AND GRYGLA ELK HERDS THIS WEEK, ALONG WITH A SURVEY OF THE CARIBOU HERD NEAR VITA, MANITOBA. AS OF LAST YEAR’S SURVEY THE KITTSON HERD IS ABOVE THEIR POPULATION GOAL, WHILE THE GRYLGA HERD LAGGED SLIGHTLY BELOW.
ROSEAU COUNTY 4-H AMBASSADORS ARE HOSTING A WINTER FUN DAY AT MALUNG ON MONDAY, FROM 1-4 IN THE AFTERNOON. IT’S FOR ALL AGES. THEY WILL HAVE SNOWSHOES, SLEDDING, AND SKATING OUTSIDE, WITH CORNHOLE INSIDE. THEY’LL SERVE COFFEE, HOT CHOCOLATE AND COOKIES.
