LAKE OF THE WOODS SCHOOLS IS ONE OF 114 DISTRICTS THAT WILL RECEIVE FUNDS FOR THE FARM TO SCHOOL PROGRAM, WHERE THEY LOOK TO IMPLEMENT LOCALLY SOURCED FOODS INTO THEIR SCHOOL FOOD PROGRAMS. IN TOTAL THE PROGRAM IS PROVIDING $4.22 MILLION STATEWIDE, WHILE LOW SCHOOLS WILL RECEIVE $6,000.

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATES IN MINNESOTA CLIMBED SLIGHTLY IN 2022, AFTER A DIP IN 2021, AND NEARLY BACK TO PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS. THE FOUR YEAR GRADUATION RATE WAS UP TO 83.6%, NEARLY BACK TO THE RECORD HIGH OF 83.8% IN 2020.
THE MINNESOTA HOUSE YESTERDAY VOTED IN FAVOR OF LEGAL CANNABIS, WITH A SENATE VOTE SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY. AS THE BILL STANDS NOW, ELIGIBLE ADULTS COULD POSSESS 2 OUNCES OR LESS OF CANNABIS IN A PUBLIC PLACE AND 1.5 POUNDS OR LESS IN A RESIDENCE. THEY’D BE ABLE TO POSSESS UP TO A TOTAL OF 800 MILLIGRAMS OR LESS OF EDIBLES CONTAINING THC. THERE WOULD BE AN 8% SALES TAX.
THE HOUSE BILL PASSED 71-59. THERE WERE TWO REPUBLICANS THAT CROSSED OVER TO JOIN THE DEMOCRATS, AND ONE DEMOCRAT THAT VOTED IN OPPOSITION.

A FORMER NEVIS SCHOOL BUS DRIVER AND HUBBARD COUNTY COMMISSIONER HAS BEEN CHARGED IN A SEX CRIME CASE THAT DATES TO A NOVEMBER 2022 INVESTIGATION. 59-YEAR OLD DANIEL STACEY OF AKELEY IS CHARGED WITH ONE FELONY COUNT RELATED TO SEXUAL CONDUCT WITH A VICTIM UNDER 14 YEAR OLD AND ANOTHER FELONY COUNTY OF DISTRIBUTING VIA ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION MATERIAL RELATED TO OR DESCRIBING SEXUAL CONDUCT TO A CHILD. A YOUNG BOY HAD REPORTED THAT STACEY HAD TAKEN HIM TO HIS PERSONAL PROPERTY WHERE HE WAS ENCOURAGED TO TALK ABOUT SEX AND WATCH PORNOGRAPHY AND REPORTED TO HAD RESIST ATTEMPTS FROM STACEY TO TOUCH HIM SEXUALLY.
A Memorial Service for Elizabeth M. Ehlers will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 1:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Bethesda Cemetery.
Elizabeth passed away at the age of 42.
A Funeral Service for Gerald L. Berg of Greenbush, MN will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:00PM at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Moe-Rose Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Gerald passed away at the age of 80.
A Funeral Service for Stephen J. Pulczinski will be held Thursday, April 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Badger at 2:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. A Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, April 26 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 5:00-7:00pm with a prayer service following at 7:00pm. Interment will be held at Malung Cemetery
