BRUCE HANSON, A ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY, IS CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE CRIMES, INCLUDING MISUSE OF GOVERNMENT DATA. A FELONY CHARGE WOULD CARRY A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF FIVE YEARS IN PRISON AND A $10,000 FINE. THERE ARE ALSO OTHER MISDEMEANOR CHARGES. ACCORDING TO AN AFFIDAVIT, HANSON WOULD USE HIS ACCESS TO CERTAIN INFORMATION AND PROVIDE IT TO OTHERS. LAW ENFORCEMENT SEIZED HIS CELL PHONE AND FOUND MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF HIM PROVIDING INFORMATION BY TEXT MESSAGE. HE HAS AN INITIAL COURT APPEARANCE ON JULY 12.
GOVERNOR WALZ ANNOUNCED THAT MINNESOTA WILL RECEIVE OVER $650 MILLION FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO EXPAND BROADBAND ACCESS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. TWO TWIN CITIES TEENS ARE DEAD AFTER CLIFF DIVING NEAR SILVER BAY. BOTH VICTIMS WERE 18 YEARS OLD. THE DAY SAW WINDS UP TO 23 MILES PER HOUR AND WAVES WERE 3-4 FEET. THE TWO STRUGGLED TO SWIM TO SHORE AFTER JUMPING INTO THE FRIGID WATER. THE BODIES WERE RECOVERED ABOUT 6 HOURS AFTER THE 911 CALL CAME IN.
TWO JUVENILES WERE INVOLVED IN AN ATV ROLLOVER IN POLK COUNTY ON SATURDAY. A 13-YEAR OLD FEMALE WAS CLEARED AT THE SCENE BY CROOKSTON AREA AMBULANCE, BUT A 15 YEAR OLD FEMALE WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL FOR INJURIES. NO SEAT BELTS OR HELMETS WERE BEING UTILIZED AT THE TIME. AFTER INVESTIGATION, THE SUSPECT THEY ATTEMPTED TO TURN WHILE DRIVING THE 2017 POLARIS RANGER THROUGH A FIELD, BUT THEIR RATE OF SPEED WAS TOO GREAT, AND IT CAUSED THE ROLL OVER.

Arthur Terrance Erickson (Terry) passed away on May 30, 2023, one day short of his 75th birthday.
A Memorial Service for Terry will be held on July 1, 2023 at 11:00am with a visitation an hour prior at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with Interment being at Spruce Cemetery in Roseau.
A Memorial Service for Gerry J. Ode of Badger, MN will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 4:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Badger City Cemetery.
Gerry passed away at the age of 65.
WARROAD PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL OFFICIALLY BE MAKING A REQUEST FOR AN EXEMPTION FROM THE LAW BANNING USE OF NATIVE AMERICAN NICKNAMES AND LOGOS. THAT WRITTEN REQUEST MUST GO TO ALL 11 FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBAL NATIONS IN MINNESOTA AND ALL MUST APPROVE OF THEIR REQUEST. THE REQUEST MUST BE MADE BY SEPTEMBER 1 AND THE PARTIES HAVE UNTIL DECEMBER 15 TO APPROVE OR DENY.
