ANOTHER MAN HAS PLEADED GUILTY IN A HUMAN SMUGGLING CASE FROM NOVEMBER, AFTER HE WAS FOUDN WITH A GROUP OF SUSPECTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN NORTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA. ERNESTO FALCON JR OF GEORGIA WAS SENTENCED TO 12 MONTHS IN PRISON. THE OTHER MAN INVOLVED HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SENTENCED TO 18 MONTHS.
CONSERVATION OFFICERS ARE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON BEAR BAITING AS A FALL HUNTING SEASON APPROACHES. SOME VIOLATIONS WERE REPORTED OUT OF THE THIEF RIVER FALLS OFFICE. OFFICER HEUNER WAS BUSY WITH FIELD TRAINING OF A CONSERVATION OFFICER CANDIDATE SEAN CANNON. THEY ALSO INVESTIGATED A DEER THAT POSSIBLY SHOT OUT OF SEASON SOUTH OF WARROAD.
THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS CONFIRMED A CASE OF NEGLECT AT A ROCHESTER NURSING HOME AND THEY SAY SIMILAR SITUATION ARE NOT RARE AT MINNESOTA FACILITIES. A STUDY SAYS THAT 49& OF MINNESOTA NURSING HOMES HAVE HAD AT LEAST ONE INCIDENT IN THE PAST THREE YEARS THAT HAS CAUSED IMMEDIATE JEOPARDY TO RESIDENT HEALTH OR SAFETY”, THAT’S THE HIGHEST OF ANY STATE. IN THIS CASE, THE WRONG MEDICATION WAS GIVEN TO THE WRONG PATIENT, AND IT ULTIMATELY RESULTED IN DEATH.
A MEMBER OF THE DIVISION III NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM FROM GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS COLLEGE WAS KILLED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT SOUTHWEST OF WILLMAR ON SUNDAY. 19-YEAR OLD JORI LYNN JONES, OF LITTLE CANADA, WAS KILLED, WHILE THREE OTHER TEAMMATES IN THE VEHICLE SUFFERED INJURIES, AND THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE HAD MINOR INJURIES. ACCORDING TO REPORTS ONE OF THE TWO VEHICLES FAILED TO STOP AT A FOUR WAY STOP, BUT DID NOT IDENTIFY WHICH VEHICLE.

A Funeral Service for Willis Bitter of Baudette will take place on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Wabanica Lutheran Church in Baudette at 1:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Elm Park Cemetery.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ronald Wesolowski of Warroad will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad with a visitation an hour prior.
