AS MINNESOTA CONTINUES TO FACE RECORD-HIGH WINTER TEMPS, GOVERNOR WALZ ANNOUNCED FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES IMPACTED BY THIS WINTER’S HISTORIC DROUGHT CONDITIONS. IMPACTED BUSINESSES IN COUNTIES WITH DROUGHT DECLARATIONS (THERE ARE 81 OF THEM) CAN APPLY FOR ECONOMIC INJURY DISASTER LOANS THROUGH THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION.
THE MINNESOTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’S ASSOCIATION HAS RECOGNIZED KELSEY JOHNSON WITH A DIVISION LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR THEIR NORTHERN DIVISION. JOHNSON IS PRINCIPAL OF WARREN-ALVARADO-OSLO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND HAD SPENT TIME AS A ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL A FEW YEARS AGO.
THE CITY OF THIEF RIVER FALLS AND MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORATION INVITE THE PUBLIC TO AN OPEN HOUSE TOMORROW TO DISCUSS A HIGHWAY 59 CORRIDOR STUDY. THE STUDY COVER THE BUSY STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 59 FROM THE HOLIDAY STATION STORE TO THE CITIES SOUTHERN LIMITS. THAT MEETING IS FROM 4-6:30 P.M. AT THE JOINT-USE FACILITY.
THE CITY OF DULUTH IS LOOKING TO EASE CONCERNS OF RESIDENTS ON PARK POINT, THE WORLD’S LONGEST FRESHWATER SANDBAR, OVER THE PURCHASE OF NOW MORE THAN 20 HOMES BY A WEALTHY FAMILY. THE CARGILL FAMILY HAS DEMOLISHED NINE OF THOSE PROPERTIES, WHILE MANY OF THE OTHERS SIT VACANT, DESPITE PURCHASING MOST OF THEM FOR WELL ABOVE MARKET VALUE. THE CITIES MAYOR HAS SAID THEY WILL NOT ALLOW PARK POINT TO BECOME A GATED COMMUNITY AND THAT BEACH AND WATER ACCESS WILL REMAIN PUBLIC. THE CITY COUNCIL IS GOING TO SEND A LETTER TO THE FAMILY ASKING THEM TO SHARE THEIR VISION, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO. RESIDENTS HAVE ALSO VOICED CONCERNS OVER THEIR PROPERTY VALUE AND TAXES SINCE THE PROPERTIES HAVE SOLD FOR SO MUCH OVER VALUE.
THE FOUR SEASONS SENIOR CENTER IN ROSEAU IS HOLDING A BAKED POTATO BAR FUNDRAISER ON FRIDAY FROM 5-7 PM. THEY’LL HAVE BARS AND BEVERAGES TO GO ALONG WITH THE MEAL. THAT IS FOR A FREEWILL DONATION.
A Memorial Service for David Rinde of Roseau will take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau at 2:00 pm with at visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Roselund Cemetery.
THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA FOUNDATION WILL HOST A STATE OF MANUFACTURING EVENT ON TUESDAY, MARCH 26 AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER FROM 9:30-11:30. IT’S A FREE EVENT OPEN TO ALL MANUFACTURERS AND SUPPORTERS OF THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY.
