NEXT WEEKEND IS MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND, BUT IT IS ALSO THE FISHING OPENER WEEKEND IN MINNESOTA. TODAY, TO SHARE IN THE ANTICIPATION, GOVERNOR WALZ AND LT GOVERNOR FLANAGAN WILL BE PURCHASING THEIR FISHING LICENSES AND HELPING TO HIGHLIGHT THE ROLE THAT FISHING PLAYS IN MINNESOTA’S TOURISM INDUSTRY.

TRAFFIC SAFETY AND THE TOWARDS ZERO DEATHS INITIATIVE WERE A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION LAST WEEK IN THIEF RIVER FALLS. IT WAS NOTED THAT IN 2023, ROSEAU COUNTY WAS ONE OF 12 IN MINNESOTA THAT HAD ZERO TRAFFIC RELATED DEATHS. RED LAKE COUNTY WAS ANOTHER OF THOSE 12.

A STUDY FROM A GROUP CALLED TRACE ONE SHOWS THAT MINNESOTANS SPEND THE LEAST ON GROCERIES OUT OF ALL 50 STATES. A HOUSEHOLD SPENDS A TOTAL OF $251 EACH WEEK, THAT IS 6.9% OF TOTAL CONSUMER SPENDING IN THE STATE. THE AVERAGE ACROSS THE UNITED STATES IS 8%.

FOR THOSE LOOKING TO BE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, A REPORT SHOWS THAT MINNESOTA IS OUTPACING MUCH OF THE COUNTRY WHEN IT COMES TO PRODUCING CARBON-FREE ELECTRICITY.

TODAY IS NATIONAL HEATSTROKE DAY, AND SAFE KIDS GRAND FORKS IS LOOKING TO HIGHLIGHT THOSE DANGERS IN CHILDREN AS THEY LOOK TO GET OUTDOORS DURING THE WARMER MONTHS. THEY AGAIN REMIND EVERYONE OF THE DANGERS OF LEAVING ANY CHILD IN A CAR, OR MAKING SURE A CHILD ISN’T ABLE TO GET INTO A CAR UNEXPECTEDLY. ON AVERAGE, 37 CHILDREN DIE FROM VEHICULAR HEATSTROKE EACH YEAR IN THE UNITED STATES.
