ACCORDING TO A MINNESOTA DNR BIOLOGIST STUDY, THE STATE POPULATION FOR DUCKS IS DOWN YET AGAIN. THE POPULATION WAS ESTIMATED AT 445,000, WHICH IS 10 PER CENT BELOW LAST YEAR, AND 30 PERCENT BELOW A 10-YEAR AVERAGE. THEY SAID THE EARLY SPRING AND DRY CONDITIONS LED TO THE DUCKS SETTLING ELSEWHERE.
FROM THE ROSEAU TIMES REGION THIS PAST WEEKEND, JEFF OLSEN TALKING WITH ROSEAU MAYOR DAN FABIAN, GETTING WORDS ON NEXT SUMMER’S HIGHWAY 11 PROJECT IN ROSEAU. THAT WILL SEE SIDEWALKS BEGIN WIDENED, SEWER AND WATER INFRASTRUCTURE WORK, AND THE STOPLIGHTS AT THE INTERSECTION WITH MAIN AVENUE WILL BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH STOP SIGNS. HE TALKED ABOUT HOW CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, TODD PETERSON, AND HIMSELF FOUGHT HARD TO KEEP THE LOCAL COST SHARE ON THAT PROJECT DOWN.
THE ANNUAL BUOY BASH IS THIS WEEKEND AT THE NORTHWEST ANGLE, WITH BOTH EVENTS ON THE MAINLAND AND OUT ON THE ISLANDS. IT STARTS FRIDAY NIGHT WITH A HISTORICAL PRESENTATION, AND CONTINUES SATURDAY WITH FOOD, MUSIC, GAMES, AND MORE.
THE WALK TO REMEMBER TO SUPPORT ALZHEIMER’S IS SEPTEMBER 7 IN WARROAD, AT ALLISON PARK. REGISTRATION IS THAT MORNING AT 9:00 WITH THE WALK TO BEGIN AT 11:30. A FREEWILL DONATION LUNCH WILL FOLLOW. THERE IS A THEME THIS YEAR TO “ROCK N ROLL FOR ALZHEIMER’S”, WHERE SOCK HOP OUTFITS AND MORE ARE ENCOURAGED.
THE CROOKSTON SCHOOL DISTRICT LAST WEEK POSTED AN UPDATE ON THEIR FOOTBALL FIELD AND TRACK PROJECT, THAT WAS APPROVED BY VOTERS A YEAR AGO. THEY SAID THE PROJECT IS ON TIME, AND GETTING THE TURF FULLY STALLED ALONG WITH WORK ON RESTROOMS AND CONCESSIONS AREA ARE MAIN CHECKLIST ITEMS.
WARROAD RIVERPLACE HAS A GRAND WELCOMING EVENT ON OCTOBER 5TH, AND ARE NOW OPENING AN APPLICATION FOR ARTISTS TO EXHIBIT IN THAT NEW SPACE. THAT ART EXHIBIT SPACE WILL BE FREE AND OPEN DAILY. A visitation for RaNae Olson of Roseau will take place at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 10:00-12:00 pm on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Interment will take place at Malung Cemetery.
A Memorial Service for Shirley Kupper of Roseau will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau at 3:00 pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will take place at Moe-Rose Cemetery in Roseau.
A Memorial Service for Nancy Brandli of Warroad will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad at 11:00am. Nancy requested that everyone wear tropical attire to the service.
