The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced an additional $250 million in automatic payments for distressed direct and guaranteed farm loan borrowers under Section 22006 of the Inflation Reduction Act. This significant step continues USDA’s commitment to keeping farmers and ranchers financially viable and support for agricultural communities. Roseau County Emergency Management recently held a Partner’s Meeting to discuss an outlook for the winter, and to share how various agencies will work to keep Roseau County healthy and safe in the event of emergencies. They discuss the overall outlook for the winter from the National Weather Service, noting that the NWS has made changes to some terminology, for example, Wind Chill Watches, Warnings, and advisories will be called Extreme Cold watches, warnings and advisories. They also heard from LifeCare Medical Center who shared their fall flu vaccine clinic schedule.
The Warroad Area Community Fund Advisory Committee is pleased to announce a Fall 2024 mini-grant round. Local nonprofits and public entities serving the geography of the Warroad School District are encouraged to apply. Grants will range from $500 – $1,500. CONSERVATION OFFICER REPORTS FROM THE PAST WEEK MENTION THAT FISHING HAS REMAINED STRONG ON AREA BODIES OF WATER AND DUCK NUMBERS HAVE BEEN DECENT TO THIS POINT. AFTER A ROUGH START, GROUSE NUMBERS HAVE PICKED UP A BIT WITH HUNTERS AS WELL.
WITH THE PROCESS NOW INTO IT’S SECOND WEEK, NUMBERS ARE SHOWING THAT MORE THAN A HALF A MILLION MINNESOTANS HAVE ALREADY ELECTED TO VOTE VIA ABSENTEE BALLOT, THAT IS WELL AHEAD OF 2016, BUT LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT WAS SENT IN 2020.
SECOND HALF TAXES ON ALL REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY, EXCLUDING FARM CLASSIFCATIONS AND MOBILE ARE DUE ON OCTOBER 15. THOSE OTHERS ARE DUE NEXT MONTH ON NOVEMBER 15.
A Memorial service for Donald L. Kofstad of Roseau, MN will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Roseau Evangelical Covenant Church. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Spruce Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Donnie passed away at the age of 88.
A Funeral Service for Truman A. Kveen of Roseau, MN will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 2:00PM at Lighthouse Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Norland Cemetery in Salol.
Truman passed away at the age of 82.
