GOVERNOR WALZ HAS ORDERED FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF AT ALL STATE BUILDINGS FOLLOWING THE PASSING OF PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER AT THE AGE OF 100. THAT ORDER STANDS FROM SUNRISE TODAY TO JANUARY 29.

WARD KNIGHT OF WANNASKA, OWNER OF ANGLEWOOD BUILDERS, HAS HAD A SWINDLING CHARGE AGAINST HIM DISMISSED. HE WAS ACCUSED OF RECEIVING AN ACCIDENTAL LARGE OVER-PAYMENT FOR HIS WORK AND NOT RETURNING IT, NOT FINISHING THE JOB HE WAS PAID TO DO AND FAILING TO DELIVER CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS. THE ALLEGED VICTIM ASKED THE PROSECUTOR TO DISMISS THE CHARGES AS HE NO LONGER WISHED TO PURSUE THEM.

A NUMBER OF CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNTS HAVE BEEN HELD ACROSS THE REGION RECENTLY. A GRAND FORKS AREA BIRD COUNT REPORTED IT’S 2ND HIGHEST TALLY OF SPECIES IN IT’S 64 YEAR HISTORY.

SENATE MINORITY LEADER MARK JOHNSON OF EAST GRAND FORKS SAYS HE EXPECTS A BUSY LEGISLATIVE SESSION, AND THE PASSING THE 2025 BUDGET WILL BE ONE OF THEIR BIGGEST TASKS. THE LEGISLATURE CONVENES ON JANUARY 14. THE DFL HAS A ONE SEAT MAJORITY IN THE SENATE, WHILE THE HOUSE IS EXPECTED TO BE TIED AT 67 SEATS A PIECE.

GRANTS AWARDED BY THE WARROAD AREA COMMUNITY FUND WERE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED. THOSE AWARDED GRANTS WERE WARROAD PUBLIC SCHOOL NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATION PROGRAM, THE NORTHBORN DAYS MUSIC FESTIVAL, THE WARROAD PACKPACK PROGRAM, THE JONATHAN GROUP (UND MUSIC PROFESSORS TO WORK WITH WARROAD STUDENTS), WARROAD SENIOR LIVING FOR CHRISTMAS DECOR, WARROAD COMMUNITY CHILD CARE, AND WARROAD PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

A Mass of Christian burial for Edwina M. Lasneski of Roseau, MN will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. There will be a Rosery service at the funeral home before visitation beginning at 4:30PM. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Edwina passed away at the age of 87.
