You could say that she was everybody’s mom or grandma, that hugs and hospitality were her special gifts. There was always time for company, coffee and a cookie!
Lorraine Frances-Carrie (Madison) Hueper was born to James and Margaret (Discher) Madison on November 5, 1937, in Waseca, MN. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, while at the Lakewood Health Center, December 29, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Lorraine graduated from New Richland High School in 1955 as Salutatorian of her class. Her musical talent accompanied the school choir on piano and played the alto sax in the marching band. Lorraine met Donald Hueper on a blind date and married “the only man I ever loved,” on May 19, 1957, in New Richland. They were married for 63 years. They are deeply missed by their family: daughter, Laura (Mike) of International Falls, MN; and sons, Arlyn of Homer, AK and Baudette and Paul (Marilyn) of Homer, AK. Her legacy of grandchildren includes Erik (Andrea), Portage, WI; Anders (Sasha) of Eagan, MN; Peter (Rachel), Charlotte, NC; Brooke (Patrick), Florence, OR; Tara, Homer, AK; Ria (Greg) of Prescott, AZ. The family’s next generation embraces her great-grandchildren Hannah, Henrik, and another great-granddaughter to be born in February and will be named after Lorraine.
Though both Lorraine and Don were born and raised on farms, they embarked on a new adventure in 1965. They managed houseboat rentals on the Ash River Trail (Orr, MN), before building and operating Voyageur Marine. Lorraine also owned and operated Touch of Velvet Beauty Salon for many years. Yet their hearts were never far from the land and bought a farm near Baudette. Lorraine enjoyed 15 years as a salesperson at the Furniture Gallery. People she worked with and served became extended family members. Lorraine blessed the Pitt Community Church with her cards and letters ministry and played beloved hymns on the piano. Arlyn helped mom and dad through their later years and was involved in all their appointments, visits with friends, church and day to day needs. The time and years deepened, so did Lorraine’s faith in her God and love of The Holy Bible. Her favorite verse was Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (NIV)
Lorraine was preceded in death by her great love Don, parents, siblings: Don, Lois, and Dale, their spouses, and members of Don’s family.
Lorraine’s viewing will be January 7, 2025, at the Pitt Community Church at 10:00, with a service at 11:00. Please join the family following the service for a light lunch and build your own ice cream sundaes. This would delight Lorraine immensely, as we all know how much she loved ice cream!
