RURAL BROADBAND DAY WAS HELD LAST WEEK AT THE STATE CAPITOL IN ST PAUL,   WHERE ADVOCATES SAID JUST 87% OF RURAL HOMES AND BUSINESSES HAVE THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE  (BASED ON MINNESOTA’S GOALS FOR  2022).STATE SENATOR DAN SPARKS,  A DFL’ER FROM SOUTHEASTERN MINNESOTA, SUPPORTS GOVERNOR TIM WALZ’  THIRTY-FIVE MILLION DOLLAR FUNDING PROPOSAL ….ABOUT HALF OF ROSEAU COUNTY IS CONSIDERED UN-SERVED OR UNDER/SERVED WITH HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  LAST WEEK,  HEARD FROM CITY ATTORNEY MICHELLE MOREN –  WHO’S CREATED A DRAFT OPEN BURNING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT. THAT’S RELATED TO RESIDENTS BURNING LEAVES AND YARD DEBRIS WITHIN CITY LIMITS. THE CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER THE CHANGES AT THEIR MAY MEETING.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS IN SPECIAL SESSION THIS EVENING.  THE AGENDA INCLUDES HIRING A SCHOOL CUSTODIAN,  AND APPROVING THE RESIGNATION OF A SCHOOL SECRETARY. THE BOARD WILL ALSO TALK ABOUT THEIR SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH,  AND ABOUT A PROPOSED SCHOOL BUILDING RENOVATION AND/OR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. SUPERINTENDENT LARRY GUGGISBERG SAYS THE INITIAL GOAL WAS A NOVEMBER BALLOT QUESTION FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT VOTERS ….

A FUNDRAISER FOR THE WARROAD SCHOOL BACKPACK PROGRAM IS THURSDAY EVENING  (4:30-6:30 PM)  AT THE WARROAD HIGH SCHOOL COMMONS.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR REBECCA RAHIER-WASKUL IS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE  AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH IN ROSEAU.  VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.  REBECCA RAHIER-WASKUL WAS  40.

THE ROSEAU RIVER ROSE MORE THAN EIGHT FEET FROM SATURDAY TO YESTERDAY,  AND APPEARS TO HAVE CRESTED EARLY THIS MORNING AT  SEVENTEEN POINT THREE FEET. THAT MEANT WATER WAS GOING OVER A WEIR NEAR THE ROSEAU CITY PARK FOR THE FIRST TIME.

THE GRAND FORKS HERALD REPORTS THAT BILLY KING OF OKLAHOMA CAUGHT A 29 INCH,  13 ½ POUND WHITEFISH SATURDAY WHILE FISHING THROUGH THE ICE ON LAKE OF THE WOODS NEAR SPRINGSTEEL ISLAND SATURDAY.THE LAKE WHITEFISH, PENDING REVIEW BY THE STATE D.N.R., WOULD BE A NEW STATE RECORD;  WEIGHING OVER A POUND MORE THAN THE CURRENT RECORD WHITEFISH,  CAUGHT ON LEECH LAKE NEAR WALKER IN 1999.

THIS IS MINNESOTA SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK,  WITH  STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILLS SCHEDULED THURSDAY  (1:45 PM AND 6:45 PM).  WARNING SIRENS WILL BE ACTIVATED IN FOUR ROSEAU COUNTY CITIES.

THE WEBSITE WalletHub  SAYS MINNESOTA IS THE 4TH BEST STATE FOR MILLENIALS,  BASED ON THINGS LIKE MONTHLY EARNINGS AND THE MILLENIAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE.    MASSACHUSETTS, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND WASHINGTON STATE WERE THE TOP THREE, WITH WISCONSIN FIFTH.

THE BOTTOM FOUR STATES FOR MILLENIALS,  ACCORDING TO THE WEBSITE,  ARE  OKLAHOMA,  MISSISSIPPI,  NEW MEXICO AND WEST VIRGINIA.
