William James McDonald was born July 31, 1963 in Roseau, Minnesota to William and Jeanette McDonald. He graduated Roseau High School, and he obtained a four year degree at Bemidji State University.

Bill was a lover of hunting, fishing, and three wheeling; he loved the outdoors. He also loved reading, researching, watching live or televised sports, reffing hockey for several years, and watching the history channel. Camping also brought many smiles and time with family around a bonfire or grilling favorite foods was special. He also loved searching for antiques and finding a fabulous bargain. Time with his wife was of utmost importance, and he cherished their coffee talks and long drives. Bill loved time with Meghan, David, Walker and Eli as well. Listening to Molly sing was also a highlight in life. He claimed he could have listened to her voice all day. Bill also loved doing anything with his only son Mark, and he was eagerly awaiting the completion of Mark’s new home. Another important part of Bill’s life was his love of music. He had an amazing voice and often spoke of his six weeks in Europe singing with the Bemidji State University choir.

This dad and grandpa continually taught his children and grandchildren about history, he taught them the fundamentals of multiple sports, and he also made sure to convey any other tips and tricks that would make life easier for them. Any time with family meant the world to Bill. His deep love of all of his family will remain with those he left behind. His unbelievable ability to entertain, capture an audience, attach to everyone a hilarious nickname, and quick wit will never be forgotten.

Bill was preceded in death by his father William Dennis McDonald and his grandparents Norman and Alma McDonald and Constance and Louis LaVoy and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife Rose McDonald and children Meghan (David Tervonen), Mark, Molly, and grandsons Walker and Eli Tervonen; mother, Jeanette McDonald; sister Cathy (David) Norberg; niece, Hana (Alex) Barthel; great niece, Luxley Barthel; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
