MICKINOCK CEMETERY CLEANUP IS TONIGHT (6 PM) FOLLOWED BY AN ANNUAL MEETING (7 PM) AT THE CEMETERY.

 

AFTER LENGTHY DISCUSSION, THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD LAST NIGHT VOTED TO HOLD A DRIVE-UP PARKING LOT GRADUATION CEREMONY ON THE 31ST OF MAY, PER MINNESOTA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION GUIDELINES.
THERE WERE THREE OPTIONS; THE OTHERS WERE A VIRTUAL CEREMONY, AND A DELAYED DATE.
BOARD MEMBER JODEE HAUGEN, WHO HAS A GRADUATING SENIOR, SAID “AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE’RE NOT GOING TO GET THE CEREMONY WE WANTED”.
IT WASN’T DETERMINED WHERE THAT CEREMONY WOULD BE HELD, BUT IT’S INTENDED TO BE BROADCAST ON WILD 102 FM.

 

THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAS BEEN LICENSED AS AN ESSENTIAL DAYCARE PROVIDER, PAVING THE WAY FOR A SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS FROM KINDERGARTEN AGE THROUGH SIXTH OR SEVENTH GRADE.
ENROLLMENT OF UP TO SEVENTY KIDS STARTED YESTERDAY, SAYS CAMP DIRECTOR MIRANDA PETERSON.
THERE WILL BE TEN COUNSELORS FOR THE CAMP, WHICH WOULD RUN FROM JUNE THROUGH AUGUST.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, LAST NIGHT, TALKED ABOUT A RE-OPENING DATE FOR THE CITY CENTER. MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI WONDERED WHETHER THERE WAS AN URGENT NEED TO RE-OPEN, GIVEN THAT THE MUSEUM AND LIBRARY REMAIN CLOSED.
THE MAYOR SUGGESTED THE COUNCIL MIGHT CONSIDER HOLDING THEIR JUNE FIRST MEETING IN PERSON AT THE CITY CENTER.

 

CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES REMAIN LOW IN NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA. MARSHALL COUNTY HAS HAD THREE CONFIRMED CASES; ROSEAU, KITTSON AND PENNINGTON COUNTIES ONE EACH; AND NONE IN LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTY.
LIFECARE PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR JULIE PAHLEN SAYS THE DANGER REMAINS IN PART BECAUSE OF UNKNOWING SPREAD OF THE DISEASE.

 

THE RED RIVER FARM NETWORK SAYS MINNESOTA’S TURKEY INDUSTRY IS LOOKING AT THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS.
THE MINNESOTA TURKEY GROWERS ASSOCIATION HAS AN AGREEMENT WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO BUY FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF TURKEY PRODUCTS.

ROSEAU COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON SAYS THEY’RE SEEKING STATE DOLLARS FOR THAT PROJECT.
HOUSTON ENGINEERING HAS BEEN SURVEYING FORMER BERGLAND ENTERPRISES ACREAGE AT THE SOUTH END OF THE CITY, FOR FUTURE PLATTING PURPOSES FOR NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT.

 

A MINNEAPOLIS NONPROFIT CALLED MARNITA’S TABLE HAS BEEN OFFERING A VIRTUAL SPACE FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE COMMUNITY SUPPORTS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.
MARNITA SCHROEDL SAYS IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT SUPPORTS, THOUGH; SHE SAYS PARTICIPANTS CAN HEAR ABOUT PLACES WHERE NOT EVERYONE CAN PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM THE VIRUS.
