A Mass of Christian Burial for Anthony Gust of Strathcona, MN will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 11:00AM at Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30 , 2025 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN.
Anthony Peter Gust, 81, passed away peacefully, with loving family by his side on March 21, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. He was born on April 20, 1943, at home in Poplar Grove Township, Roseau County to Max and Rose (Homolka) Gust. Baptized at St. Joseph’s Church in Benwood, as man of deep faith Anthony served as an altar boy and remained committed to his faith throughout his life serving as a longtime Eucharistic minister and church reader.
Anthony married the love of his life, Marcella Gregerson, on August 20th, 1966, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenbush, MN, and they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. He was a dedicated dairy farmer, working the land with passion and commitment, raising cattle, crops and hay. He briefly worked at Polaris Industries before focusing on farming. A pillar of his community, Anthony served on the township board for 42 years and was a member of Lodge 219, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Greenbush American Legion, and the Area Food Shelf. He also proudly served in the Army National Guard enlisting in 1964, training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Anthony’s life was characterized by his love of the outdoors, his devotion to family, and his community spirit. A very hard worker, he enjoyed many passions including dancing, John Deere tractors, fishing, hunting, and watching western movies. He enjoyed attending the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN, and cherished short vacations to Florida with family. He loved spending time visiting with family and friends, always with a cup of coffee in hand and enjoying his favorite snacks of peanuts and popcorn. Anthony was known for his contagious smile.
He is survived by his wife Marcella (Gregerson) Gust; Daughters, Shonda (Terry) Halvorson, Deanna (Dean) Forst, Sons; Patrick (Shelah) Gust and Christopher Gust; Grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Halvorson, Devon, Austin (Kyla) Halvorson, Baily(Rachel Kloety), Max, Alecia Forst, Tucker and Jalyssa Gust, Cormick, Adeline, and Briggs Gust; Great Grandchildren, Blaise and Sophie Sundberg, Indigo, Kellen, Grayson, and Anica Halvorson; Brother, Joe (Joy) Gust; Sisters; Betty (Dallas) Erickson, Dorothy Pesch (Jim Myers); And several in-laws, nieces, nephews and 6 God-children.
Anthony is preceded in death by his parents Max and Rose (Homolka) Gust; Brothers, Max (Bud) Gust, Harry Gust, and infant brother.
