Funeral services for Doran E. Horner, of Warroad, MN, will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the Union Congregational Church, Warroad, MN at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Doran Edward Horner of Warroad passed away at Lifecare Medical Center in Roseau, MN on January 21, 2022 at the age of 92.

Doran was born on February 22, 1929 in a log home south of Roosevelt, MN to Lorraine and Katherine (Price) Horner. He was a twin to Donald Horner. Doran went to the country school through the 8th grade.

Doran married Shirley Pearson on October 7, 1950 and they had two sons, Glenn and Michael.

Doran farmed with his brother and then with his son. He loved working with the machinery and helping his nephews with their farming. Doran’s political life began on the township board. He then served 28 years on the Roseau County Board of Commissioners. He made a point of visiting the local coffee places to find out what people were thinking on the issues of the day.

Doran enjoyed deer and elk hunting, which he did for many years. He retired from hunting deer and was the camp cook for many years. Everyone especially loved his famous pancake breakfasts. He loved to play smear with whoever was there, but hated to lose the 25 cents. Much to Shirley’s dismay, he got a motorcycle at the age of 69 and spent time riding from one end of the country to the other with friends. In his early 70’s he purchased an airplane and got his pilot’s license. He loved flying and regretted having to give that up years later.

You could count on seeing Doran taking his daily walks, mostly in the woods, but anywhere in the neighborhood whether rain, shine or below zero. He loved analyzing football games and players, and arguing about reasons and results with anyone who listened, especially his 3 a.m. coffee buddy Al Rybolt.

Doran was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Katherine Horner; Son, Michael Horner; Infant sister, Marguerite; Brothers Donald, Wesley, Robert, and Richard Horner and nephew, Robert Horner.

Doran is survived by his wife, Shirley; Son, Glenn(Jeri) Horner of Warroad; Grandchildren, Katrina(Joshua) Friedrichs of Avon, MN and Kassandra Horner of Burnsville, MN; and Great-Grandson, Gabriel Carpenter of Bloomington, MN.
