Hennepin County Farm Family of the Year is a family of farmers markets in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County Farm Family of the Year is a family of farmers markets in Minneapolis. The Farmers Markets of Minneapolis Collaborative fosters the vitality of the city’s farmers markets through strategic informed innovation, advocacy, education and cohesive partnerships. The collaborative project is implemented in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, University of Minnesota, Homegrown Minneapolis Food Council, Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Minnesota Farmers Market Association and others.
More than 20 farmers markets and mini markets operate in Minneapolis. These markets work together on shared metrics collection, marketing, policy, and other opportunities. The markets have 644 vendors, mostly farmers.
The coalition has a large team made up of managers of six farmers markets: Martha Archer, Mill City; Elizabeth Day, Four Sisters; Emily Lund, Neighborhood Roots Markets; Keeya Allen, Midtown; Mao Lee, Lyndale and Nicollet Mall; and DeVon Nolen, West Broadway. Other partners include Tamara Downs Schwei, Homegrown Minneapolis; Hikaru Peterson and Joe Nowak, University of Minnesota; Evalyn Carbrey and Mai Yang, Minneapolis Department of Health; Kathy Zeman, Minnesota Farmers Market Association and Helene Murray, Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, along with many others who’ve devoted their time and talent to making the coalition a success.
