A Memorial Service for Gene M. Brateng of Roseau will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Gene passed away on Tuesday, February 26 at the LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 59.
Gene Michael Brateng was born on May 8, 1959 to Verland and Mildred (Burian) Brateng in Fort Lewis, Washington.
He grew up and attended grade school in Malung, MN before graduating in 1977 from Roseau High School. He then attended Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, MN for Carpentry. He moved back to Roseau, MN and began working at Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad, MN for a time before his employment at Polaris Industries in Roseau, MN. In August of 1981 Gene married Sharleen Olson; they had two children Tanya and Andy. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting with friends and family. He lived a quiet and simple life and deeply loved his family, especially his kids and grandkids. He also loved his dogs Sammie and Berry. Gene was an inspiration to many as he was able to remain positive though all of his medical struggles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his parents, Verland and Mildred Brateng; children, Tanya (Josh) Wiskow of Roseau, MN, Andy (Kelli) Brateng of Red Lake Falls, MN; grandchildren, Austin, Taylor and Brody Wiskow, of Roseau, MN, Brayden Ste. Marie, Addison and Dru Brateng of Red Lake Falls, MN; brother, Terry (Susannah) Brateng of Roseau, MN; nephews, Blaine (Brooke) Brateng, their children, Brynn, Blake and Becca; Brayden (Brianna) Brateng.
