12/14/2020

James Albert Hatcher II of Warroad passed away December 13, 2020 at the age of 80. He was born the only child of James Albert Hatcher and Viola Bertha Johnson Hatcher on April 8, 1940 in a private home in Beckley, WV.

In 1958 after attending Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. After boot camp at Paris Island, SC, he received special training and served in the 3rd Air Wing where he worked on hydraulic systems for FJ Furies and A4D Sky Raiders. During his enlistment he was a proud member of VMF (Fighting) Squadron; VMA (Attack) Squadron and MAG Squadron. When asked about or thanked for his service, he would always say “Back then we all had to do it.”

Upon completion of his service to his country, he returned to Beckley, WV completing his degree in accounting and business. Later years brought him to Maryland where he met and married Judith M Lindgren on July 29, 1985. They enjoyed traveling in their RV, attending reenactments, researching family history, and most of all just being together. From Maryland Jim and Judy moved to South Carolina and then it was on to Warroad, MN as their final destination.

Jim was an avid reader, but never fiction. He loved biographies and history and it didn’t matter which era. He was always wanted to learn, investigate, analyze and understand strategies which created quite the library at the Hatcher house. He wrote several short biographies about the Hatcher generations from information collected during genealogy research trips. He had a wonderful gift of writing creating more than a few short stories.

One of his greatest joys was reconnecting with his high school classmates over the years. He valued their friendship more than can be expressed. He felt honored to be a part of that special group.

Jim is survived by his wife Judith M Hatcher of Warroad and “special brother and sister” Steve Monteiro and Nanci Banks of Olney, MD. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Albert Hatcher and Viola Bertha Johnson Hatcher. Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Adolph and Beverly Lindgren and Sister-in-Law, Delsie Kaye Thiessen.

Helgeson Funeral Home serves the family. A private burial is planned for a later date.
