ON WEDNESDAY THE PINE TO PRAIRIE DRUG TASK FORCE AND VIOLENT ENFORCEMENT TEAM, WITH ASSISTANCE FROM TEH CROW WING COUNTY BOMB SQUAD LOCATED AND THEN REMOVED A SUSPECTED HOMEMADE EXPLOSIVE DEVICE FROM AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN WARROAD. IT WAS REMOVED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY JAIL.
A RESTAURANT OWNER IN CROOKSTON AND EAST GRAND FORKS HAS PLEADED GUILTY TO TWO FELONIES. 22-YEAR OLD JOE BUSHAW, OWNER OF JOE’S CAFE, PLEADED GUILTY TO THEFT BY DECEPTION AND MISAPPLICATION OF ENTRUSTED PROPERTY. CLAIMS AND DOCUMENT SHOW THAT BUSHAW DEDUCTED MONEY FROM A FEMALE EMPLOYEE’S PAYCHECKS FOR CHILD SUPPORT, BUT THEN DID NOT SUBMIT ALL OF THE MONEY TO CHILD SUPPORT AGENCIES. THERE WAS ROUGHLY $1,500 UNACCOUNTED FOR. HE WAS GIVEN A ONE YEAR JAIL SENTENCE, BUT THAT IS STAYED IN LIGHT OF 18 MONTHS UNSUPERVISED PROBATION. HE WILL PLAY BACK THE AMOUNT IN $50 PAYMENTS.
CENTRAL BOILER IS RECEIVING A GOVERNOR’S SAFETY AWARD FROM THE MINNESOTA SAFETY COUNCIL. THAT AWARD IS GIVEN TO EMPLOYERS WITH EXCEPTION SAFETY PERFORMANCE. THE CROOKSTON SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVED SOME GOOD NEWS WHEN THE BID FOR THEIR GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS ON THEIR MULTI-USE ATHLETIC COMPLEX CAME IN AT JUST 3.42 PERCENT INTEREST, THAT WAS BELOW THE FIGURE THEY HAD USED DURING THE ELECTION OF OF AN ESTIMATED 4.7 PERCENT MEANING THEY WILL HAVE AL LITTLE EXTRA WORKING CAPITAL.
PARENTS HAVE SPOKEN UP AT RECENT MEETINGS ABOUT VIOLENCE WITHIN THE CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE THE SUPERINTENDENT SAYS THEY HAVE HAD 12 PHYSICAL ALTERCATIONS TAKE PLACE THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
THEY ALSO SPOKE UP ON VAPING CONCERNS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS, AND THE POTENTIAL NEED FOR PRIVATE RESTROOMS FOR THOSE WHO MAY IDENTIFY AS ONE GENDER OR THE OTHER.

A Funeral Service for Gerald L. Berg of Greenbush, MN will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:00PM at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held tomorrow from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Moe-Rose Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Gerald passed away at the age of 80.
