THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS COUNCIL SPONSORS A TRAINING AND NETWORKING DAY FOR PERFORMING ARTS LEADERS IN THIS REGION SEPTEMBER 14TH  (10-4)  AT THE WIN-E-MAC ARTS AND EVENTS CENTER IN ERSKINE.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  HEARD THAT ROOFERS HAVE BEEN WORKING ATOP THE SCHOOL AND AT THE RAMS SPORTS CENTER;  THAT PAINTERS ARE WORKING;  AND THAT THE DISTRICT IS CONSIDERING AN  L-E-D RETROFIT,  AFTER A LIGHTING ENERGY AUDIT.

SUPERINTENDENT TOM JEROME SAID THE SCHOOL  “WILL BE READY DAY ONE”.

 

ROSEAU, LANCASTER AND MANITOBA OFFICIALS HAVE MET NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF,  OBJECTING TO A CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION DECISION TO REDUCE HOURS AT TWO PORTS OF ENTRY WITH CANADA.   ROSEAU MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI LED A CONTINGENT LAST WEEK THAT MET WITH U.S. SENATOR TINA SMITH ON THE ISSUE;  BUT THE MAYOR IS PESSIMISTIC ABOUT A FAVORABLE RESULT.

 

THE  U.S.D.A.’S  FARM SERVICE AGENCY SAYS THERE WERE MORE THAN NINETEEN MILLION PREVENTED PLANT ACRES THIS YEAR.

THAT’S THE MOST EVER IN THE UNITED STATES.

MINNESOTA HAS ONE-POINT-ONE MILLION ACRES ENROLLED IN THE PREVENTED PLAN PROGRAM.

 

ALLETE ENERGY TELLS THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD THE GREAT NORTHERN TRANSMISSION LINE,  WHICH CROSSES MORE THAN FORTY MILES OF THE COUNTY,   WILL HAVE A TAXABLE MARKET VALUE OF  43 MILLION DOLLARS IN PAYABLE 2021,  AND NEARLY  102 MILLION DOLLARS WHEN IT’S FULLY OPERATION IN PAYABLE  2022.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE ASSESSES UTILITIES;  AND THE COMPANY SAYS THE NUMBERS ARE VERY PRELIMINARY.

MONDAY IS ROSEAU DAY FOR THE WORLD PLOUGHING COMPETITION,  WHICH WILL BE HELD SOUTH OF BAUDETTE AT THE END OF NEXT WEEK.

IT’S EXPECTED 130 FOREIGN VISITORS WILL BE IN ROSEAU MONDAY,  TOURING POLARIS, THE POLARIS EXPERIENCE CENTER AND THE ROSEAU COUNTY MUSEUM.

 

REPORTS SAY A CHILDCARE SHORTAGE REMAINS IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA,  BUT MISSY OKESON  (FROM ROSEAU,  AND WITH THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA FOUNDATION)  SAYS THERE ARE SIGNS THE SITUATION IS IMPROVING.  A RECENT THIEF RIVER FALLS STUDY SHOWS A DEFICIENCY IN INFANT AND TODDLER CHILDCARE OPTIONS.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR DALE CARLSON OF ROSEAU IS THIS MORNING AT TEN AT MOE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR DONALD BERGERSON OF THIEF RIVER FALLS IS TOMORROW MORNING AT ELEVEN AT OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.    A CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE IN TWO HARBORS.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR NORA HAMNESS OF STRATHCONA ARE MONDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT GRACE EVANGELICAL CHURCH OF STRATHCONA.  VISITATION IS SUNDAY AFTERNOON  (4-6 PM)  WITH A FIVE P.M. CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE AT THE CHURCH.

A FATAL JANUARY SHOOTING AT A MARINE BARRACKS IN WASHINGTON,  D.C. HAPPENED BECAUSE LANCE CORPORAL ANDREW JOHNSON FAILED TO PROPERLY UNLOAD HIS PISTOL,  AND PULLED THE TRIGGER AS A JOKE;   KILLING 20 YEAR OLD MARINE  RILEY KUZNIA OF KARLSTAD,  ACCORDING TO A PROSECUTOR.

JOHNSON HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER.

 

DARLENE RIVERA SPALLA HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO SERVE AS A JUDGE IN THE 9TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT.  THE CURRENT MAHNOMEN COUNTY ATTORNEY REPLACES JUDGE KURT MARBEN,  WHO RETIRED.  THE 9TH DISTRICT ENCOMPASSES SEVENTEEN COUNTIES,  INCLUDING ROSEAU.

 

A TENTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IS TOMORROW AT THE WARROAD SENIOR LIVING CENTER  (Noon to Four PM),  WITH FREE FOOD AND MUSIC BY GABBIE JUNE.
