HEATING BILLS WILL BE HIGHER IN MINNESOTA THIS WINTER, AND ENERGY ASSISTANCE FUNDS ARE DOWN FROM A YEAR AGO. RIGHT NOW THE AVERAGE HEATING ASSISTANCE GRANT IS $580, COMPARED TO AN AVERAGE OF $1199 LAST YEAR. THAT IS DUE MOSTLY TO THE FACT THAT THE AGENCY HAD AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN DOLLARS THAT NEARLY DOUBLED THEIR FUNDING. THEY EXPECT NEARLY 125,000 APPLICATIONS FOR THAT PROGRAM.
