SENTENCING FOR ERIC REINBOLD, THE OKLEE MAN CONVICTED OF MURDER, IS SET FOR JANUARY 11TH AFTER HE HAS HIRED A NEW ATTORNEY. HIS FORMER ATTORNEY TOLD THE COURT LAST WEEK THAT HE HAD BEEN FIRED BY REINBOLD JUST PRIOR TO PREVIOUS SENTENCING DATE. HE’S FACING CHARGES NOT ONLY FOR MURDER BUT FOR ALSO ASSAULTING A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER.
THE MINNESOTA DNR IS OPENING IT’S ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION TO THE PUBLIC. THE FORUM, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE JANUARY 20 IN BLOOMINGTON, HAS A LIMITED NUMBER OF FREE, FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVED SLOTS FOR MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO ENGAGE WITH DNR LEADERS AND OTHERS IN THE CONSERVATION COMMUNITY. HISTORICALLY, THIS HAS BEEN AN INVITATION ONLY EVENT.
A PLEA AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED FOR A ST. HILAIRE MAN, IN CONNECTION WITH THE OVERDOSE DEATH OF HIS FIANCEE. 31-YEAR OLD ANTHONY JOSEPH DRURY WAS CHARGED WITH THIRD DEGREE MURDER AND FOURTH DEGREE DRUG SALE LAST DECEMBER. HE ORIGINALLY PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO BOTH, BUT HAS CHANGED HIS PLEA FOR THE MURDER CHARGE TO GUILTY. THERE’S THE POSSIBLE PENALTY OF 25 YEARS IN PRISON. SENTENCING IS SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 17. ON DECEMBER 2 OF 2021, OFFICERS FOUND MICHAELA ROSE CONSTANCE COOPER DEAD IN THE COUPLES BEDROOM. DRURY TOLD OFFICERS THE COUPLE HAD RELAPSED AFTER A WEEK OF NO DRUG USE. DRURY ALSO SAID HE HAD BOUGHT THE FENTANYL PILLS FROM 24-YEAR OLD JAMES MICHAEL MORIN, WHO WAS EVENTUALLY CONVICTED OF THIRD DEGREE MURDER.
TEAMSTERS OF THE LOCAL 230 IN ST LOUIS COUNTY, WHICH INCLUDES PLOW DRIVERS, HAVE REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE COUNTY THAT COULD AVERT A POSSIBLE STRIKE. THE CONTRACT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THREE YEARS.
AFTER FOUR YEARS, THE US CHEMICAL SAFETY AND HAZARD INVESTIGATION BOARD RELEASED IT’S FINAL REPORT ON THE HUSKY REFINERY EXPLOSION IN SUPERIOR. THAT CAUSED $500 MILLION IN DAMAGE TO THE REFINERY AND INJURED 36 WORKERS, WHILE 2500 RESIDENTS OF SUPERIOR WERE EVACUATED FROM THEIR HOMES. THE REPORT MADE NOTES OF KEY SAFETY ISSUES INCLUDING A LACK OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND OUTDATED EQUIPMENT. THAT REFINERY IS SET TO REOPEN IN THE FIRST THREE MONTHS OF 2023.
REPORTS SAY THAT GRAIN EXPORTS LEAVING THE PORT OF DULUTH-SUPERIOR ARE ON PACE TO BE THE LOWEST, OR SECOND-LOWEST SINCE 1890. THEY SAY A POOR CROP, FEWER SHIPS, HIGHER TRANSPORTATION COSTS, AND THE WAR IN UKRAINE ALL TOOK A TOLL. THROUGH NOVEMBER, 510,547 METRIC TONS OF GRAIN HAD MOVED THROUGH THE PORT.
THE OFFICIAL CHARGES WERE FILED YESTERDAY AGAINST THREE TEENS INVOLVED THE SHOOTING AT THE MALL OF AMERICA THAT LEFT A 19-YEAR OLD DEAD. THE STATE IS ASKING RESIDENTS TO USE A “LESS IS MORE” MENTALITY WHEN IT COMES TO SALTING ROADWAYS DURING THE WINTER. THE MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL AGENCY SAYS ROADS ARE OFTEN OVER-SALTED WHICH SENDS CHLORINE INTO LAKES, RIVERS, AND STREAMS. AN ESTIMATED 445,000 TONS OF SALT IS SCATTERED ACROSS THE STATE EACH YEAR.
FARMERS GRAIN IN THIEF RIVER FALLS HAS RESPONDED TO COMPLAINTS ABOUT DUST THAT WERE MADE AT A RECENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING. THEIR GENERAL MANAGER SAID ON THE DATES IN QUESTION THE FACILITY HAD DRIED AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF GRAIN IN AN UNUSUALLY SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROBLEM, BUT DID ADMIT THAT NO GRAIN DRYING OPERATION WILL BE DUST FREE, AND MADE NO GUARANTEE IT WOULDN’T HAPPEN AGAIN. HE POINTED TO IMPROVEMENT THEY’VE MADE THAT GO BEYOND THE GUIDELINES FROM THE MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL AGENCY, AND MENTIONED THAT THE COMPANY HAS CONTRIBUTED TO AN OVERALL REHAB OF THE AREA. THE CITY COUNCIL URGED THE COMPANY TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH THOSE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED.
