THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT IS PUSHING BACK AGAINST CLAIMS MADE IN A STUDY FROM THE INSTITUTE FOR JUSTICE THAT SAID THERE WERE A NUMBER OF FLAWS IN THE PLAN FOR THE ROSEAU LAKE PROJECT. THE REPORT CLAIMED THAT THE PROJECT’S COST WAS UNDERESTIMATED AND THAT FLOODING RISK OF LOCAL FARMLAND COULD BE WORSE THAN STATED. TRACY HALSTENSGARD, WITH THE RRWD, SAYS THE PROJECT HAS BEEN VETTED BY PARTNERS SUCH AS THE RED RIVER WATERSHED MANAGEMENT BOARD, A FLOOD DAMAGE REDUCTION WORK GROUP MADE UP OF LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES, ALONG WITH LANDOWNERS AND AGRICULTURAL ENTITIES.
A ST. HILLAIRE MAN HAS BEEN GIVEN A ONE YEAR JAIL SENTENCE FOR ROLE IN THE OVERDOSE DEATH OF HIS FIANCEE. 31-YEAR OLD ANTHONY JOSEPH DRURY PLEADED GUILTY TO THIRD-DEGREE MURDER IN THE DEATH OF MICHAELA ROSE CONSTANCE COOPER THAT OCCURRED IN DECEMBER OF 2021. HE WAS GRANTED A STAY ON HIS PRISON SENTENCE OF 74 MONTHS AND WILL BE ON SUPERVISED PROBATION FOR UP TO 10 YEARS.
