THE DEATH OF A CHILD THAT FELL OFF OF A PARADE FLOAT ON THE FOURTH OF JULY IN MANDAN, NORTH DAKOTA HAS BEEN DEEMED ACCIDENTAL AND NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED. 6 YEAR OLD MABEL ASKAY WAS ON AN UNSECURED CHAIR, ABOARD A FLATBED TRAILER THAT WAS SLOWLY MOVING, PREPARING FOR THE PARADE. WITNESSES SAY SHE MAY HAVE BEEN REACHING, TRYING TO POP BUBBLES THAT BEEN BLOWN WHEN SHE THEN FELL OFF TRAILER AND WAS RUN OVER. THE FAMILY, FROM VENTURA, CALIFORNIA, WAS VISITING RELATIVES.

MIDCO WILL PROVIDE FREE WI-FI SO PEOPLE COULD USE IT AS AN OUTDOOR OFFICE SPACE. CURRENTLY THE SPACE IS BUSY WHEN CONCERTS AND FARMERS MARKETS ARE HELD, AND IS FLOODING WITH A SKATING RINK, BUT REMAINS UNDER-UTILIZED ON A DAILY BASIS ACCORDING TO DDA PRESIDENT JILL PROCTOR.

GOVERNOR TIM WALZ IS ONCE AGAIN BRINGING UP THE IDEA OF GETTING THE LEGISLATURE TO RETURN FOR A SPECIAL SESSION TO TAKE UP THE IDEA OF $1000 REBATE CHECKS FOR MINNESOTANS, THAT WOULD USE PART OF THE STATE’S HISTORIC $9 BILLION SURPLUS. WALZ SAYS IT’S “UNCONSCIONABLE THAT WE ARE SITTING ON MONEY IN THE BANK OF MINNESOTA AND IT COULD GO BACK TO FAMILIES RIGHT NOW”. HE SAID HE’D LIKE TO HEAR MORE FROM THE PEOPLE, AS TO WHETHER THEY THINK IT’S A GOOD IDEA.

AMERICAN CRYSTAL SUGAR UNION EMPLOYEES VOTED TO REJECT A FOUR-YEAR LABOR DEAL TO REPLACE THE FIVE YEAR DEAL THAT EXPIRES AUGUST 1 OF THIS YEAR. THE NEW AGREEMENT WOULD HAVE OFFERED A 17% PAY INCREASE OVER FOUR YEARS. REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE UNION AND COMPANY BOTH SAID THAT NO STRIKE VOTE IS IMMINENT AND THE COMPANY DOES NOT PLAN TO LOCK OUT WORKERS. THE COMPANY HAS SEVEN LOCATIONS, INCLUDING EAST GRAND FORKS, MOORHEAD, AND DRAYTON. THERE WAS A LOCKOUT THAT LASTED 22 MONTHS FROM 2011 TO 2013.

LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER AND ALTRU CLINIC, ALONG WITH POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN ROSEAU, WARRROAD AND ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ARE SPONSORING A MEDICATION TAKE BACK DAY ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. ANY UNUSED, EXPIRED, AND UNWANTED MEDICATIONS CAN BE DROPPED AT THE WARROAD PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, ROSEAU CITY CENTER, AND GREENBUSH FIRE HALL BETWEEN THE HOURS OF NOON AND 4 PM.

Public visitation for Sidney W. Joslyn of Warroad, MN will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 4-8 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad, MN.
Sidney passed away at the age of 66.

A Celebration of Life for Virginia “Ginger” Kimble of Warroad, MN will be held on tomorrow at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ginger passed away at the age of 76.

A Funeral service for Raymond O. Vistad of Roseau, MN will be held on tomorrow at 2:00 PM at First United Lutheran Church in Roseau. Visitation will be held on hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Moe-Rose Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Raymond passed away at the age of 87.
