THE INTERNATIONAL SNOWMOBILE HALL OF FAME RECENTLY ANNOUNCED IT’S HALL OF CLASS HONOREES FOR 2024. MIKE HETTEEN OF ROSEAU IS ONE OF THEM. MIKE HAD A 36 YEAR CAREER AT POLARIS AND HELPED TO FORM THE ROSEAU COUNTY TRAILBLAZERS IN 1987. HE IS THE SON OF ALLEN HETTEEN AND NEPHEW OF EDGAR HETTEEN. A CEREMONY WILL BE HELD IN EAGLE RIVER, WISCONSIN IN SEPTEMBER.

TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY ON THE JOB FOR RANDY PRACHAR, MANAGER AT THE ROSEAU RIVER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA. HE CAME TO HIS JOB AT ROSEAU RIVER IN 1988 AND WOULD THEN SPEND HIS ENTIRE CAREER THERE. HE HAS BEEN MANAGER SINCE 2009. THE NORTHWEST REGIONAL MANAGER FOR THE DNR IN BEMIDJI CALLED PRACHAR “A CONSUMMATE WILDLIFE PROFESSIONAL AND PUBLIC SERVANT”. OUTSIDE OF SOME TRAVEL, RANDY SAYS THERE NO IMMEDIATE PLANS IN RETIREMENT.

A ROSEAU COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE IS NEXT TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, WITH DONATION APPOINTMENTS STILL OPEN THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON, AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. BLOOD DONATIONS HAVE BEEN ON A DECLINE THIS SUMMER AND THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO PROVIDE A POTENTIAL LIFE SAVING MEASURE TO SOMEONE IN NEED. ON JULY 8, ROAD WORK ON HIGHWAY 89 NEAR GRYGLA WILL COMMENCE. THE WORK WILL BE DONE BETWEEN HIGHWAY 89 FROM GRYGLA TO THE RED LAKE NATION BOUNDARY. A DETOUR WILL USE MARSHALL COUNTY ROAD 54 AND HIGHWAY 1. THERE WILL ALSO BE CULVERT REPLACEMENTS AND SIDEWALK UPGRADES IN GRYGLA.

THE LAKE OF THE WOODS AND ROSEAU COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICTS HAVE A FIELD DAY PLANNED FOR WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 AT THE ROOSEVELT COMMUNITY CENTER FROM 8-3. REGISTRATION IS REQUESTED, BUT IT IS FREE AND LUNCH IS PROVIDED. THEY’LL HAVE A NUMBER OF PRESENTERS ON HAND.
