STEVE SHAND AND HARSHKIMAR PATEL ARE FACING VARIOUS CHARGES FOR THE SCHEME THAT BROUGHT INDIAN NATIONALS TO CANADA, THEN SMUGGLE THEM INTO THE UNITED STATES, WHERE THEY HAD ARRANGEMENTS TO GET THEM TO CHICAGO FOR WORK IN A RESTARAUNT CHAIN. IT SHOULD BE NOTED, THE PATEL FACING CHARGES, HAS NO RELATION TO THE PATEL FAMILY WHO PERISHED IN THE HARSH WINTER ELEMENTS.
THE ROSEAU RIVER WATER TRAIL HAS BEEN GIVEN A DESIGNATION BY THE GREATER MINNESOTA REGIONAL PARKS AND TRAILS COMMISSION, MAKING IT THEIR 80TH REGIONALLY DESIGNATED FACILITY IN THE GREAT MINNESOTA SYSTEM. THE FIREARMS DEER SEASON HARVEST FOR THE OPENING WEEKEND IN MINNESOTA WAS UP SIGNIFICANTLY FROM A YEAR AGO. JUST OVER 55,000 DEER WERE TAKEN IN THIS YEAR, COMPARED TO JUST OVER 47,000 LAST YEAR. IN THE NORTHWEST, IT WAS UP 5% FROM A YEAR AGO.
THE POLK COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE LAST WEEK FOUND THAT DEADLY FORCE USED BY POLICE OFFICER NICHOLAS FLADLAND IN THE DEATH OF ANTHONY SCOTT DALE WAS JUSTIFIED. DALE WAS EXHIBITING ERRATIC BEHAVIOR, AND CARRIED A “CAUTION” NOT IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT’S REPORTING SYSTEM AS HE WAS A KNOWN DRUG USER, AN ABUSER, AND HAD MADE SUICIDAL THREATS TO OFFICERS IN THE PAST.
INVESTIGATION OF A SEPARATE DEADLY SHOOTING BY OFFICER FLADLAND IS NOW BEING HANDLED BY CROW WING COUNTY INVESTIGATORS. THAT INVOLVED THE DEATH OF CHRISTOPHER JUNKIN, WHO WAS BEING DISRUPTIVE AT A HOMELESS SHELTER.
SECOND HALF TAXES ON FARM CLASSIFICATIONS AND MOBILE HOMES ARE DUE THIS WEEK, NOVEMBER 15, TO THE ROSEAU COUNTY TREASURER. KEEP IN MIND, THE COURTHOUSE WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY.
Funeral Services for Lucinda Hoops of Baudette, MN will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be from 5- 7pm Sunday November 17th at the church and Mass of Christian Burial at 1030 AM with Visitation starting 1 hour before on November 18th.
Lucinda Passed away at the age of 54.
