A FORMER NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATOR IN FERTILE IS SUING THE CITY, THE MAYOR, AND THE NURSING HOME ITSELF. ANGIE LEITING WAS LET GO AFTER 34 YEARS AT FAIR MEADOW NURSING HOME, WHICH IS OWNED BY THE CITY. WE PREVIOUSLY HAD THE STORY OF HOW SHE WAS FORCED TO RESIGN AFTER THEY HAD LIST OF REASONS, THAT SHE SAYS ARE PETTY OR MADE UP. SHE’S ALSO DISCOVERED A PAPER TRAIL THAT SHOWS HER REPLACEMENT WAS ALREADY SELECTED BEFORE THEY EVEN ADDRESSED THOSE CONCERNS WITH HER.
THREE PEOPLE WERE FOUND DEAD ON TUESDAY NIGHT AT A BREEZY POINT RESIDENCE. OFFICIALS ARE CALLING IT A MURDER-SUICIDE. THE VICTIMS WERE FROM MAPLE GROVE AND ELK RIVER. IT APPEARS AN ADULT MALE KILLED HIMSELF, AFTER A WOMAN AND HER DAUGHTER WERE KILLED.
A MINNESOTA PHEASANT COUNT WAS UP IN THE SOUTHWEST PART OF THE STATE, BUT DOWN EVERYWHERE ELSE. THERE IT WAS AN INCREASE OF OVER 100%, WHILE OTHER AREAS WERE DOWN ANYWHERE FROM 39%-63%.
A WOMAN FROM HIBBING HAS ALLEGEDLY NETTED OVER $117,000 FROM ILLEGAL LOTTERIES THAT SHE RAN THROUGH A FACEBOOK GROUP. SHE RAN THE LOTTERY GROUP BY SELLING NUMBERED SPOTS, THAT WOULD THEN BE CHOSEN AT RANDOM. SOME MONEY WOULD BE GIVEN TO CHARITY, BUT THE PROBLEM BECAME SHE WOULD ALSO KEEP A CUT FOR HERSELF. SHE TOLD AUTHORITIES SHE THOUGHT WHAT SHE WAS DOING WOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS “CHARITABLE GAMBLING”. AUTHORITIES ALSO FOUND THAT SHE ATTEMPTED TO CONTINUE WITH THE LOTTERIES THROUGH A PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP AFTER SHE WAS WARNED ABOUT IT’S ILLEGALITY.

THE ROSEAU PIONEER FARM HAS A PANCAKE BREAKFAST NEXT SATURDAY FROM 7-11 AM. IT WILL RAISE FUNDS FOR GENERAL UPKEEP OF THE FARM.

Robbie Nesmith, age 44 of Minnetrista, MN passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
Morton “Mort” Nesmith age 81, of Baudette, MN passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023.
Combined services for the father and son will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 11:00AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
A mass of Christian burial for Raymond Efta will be held on monday (1:30 pm) at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, starting at 2:00 with a 4:00 prayer service, with a Rosary to follow. Visitation is also one hour prior on Monday. Ray Efta passed away August 30.
A Funeral Service for Willard W. Monsrud of Badger, MN will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 12:30PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be held at Nannestad Cemetery in Badger, MN.
