THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETS TOMORROW. WITHIN THAT MEETING IS A PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE 2025 PRELIMINARY BUDGET AND PROPERTY TAX LEVY.
THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL WOULD BE SCHEDULED TO MEET THIS EVENING FOR THEIR REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING.
DEATHS RESULTING FROM ATV CRASHES SURGED THIS YEAR IN MINNESOTA, AND WILL SET A NEW RECORD NUMBER. AS OF NOVEMBER 5, 30 PEOPLE HAD DIED IN SUCH ACCIDENTS, SURPASSING A PREVIOUS HIGH OF 27. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CRASHES, IN THE 250 RANGE, REMAINS ON PAR WITH PREVIOUS YEARS. THOSE FATALITIES OCCURRED IN 18 COUNTIES, INCLUDING ROSEAU COUNTY. THEY DO NOTE ONE AREA OF INCREASE SEEMS TO BE YOUNGER DRIVERS ON MACHINES THAT ARE TOO LARGE FOR THEM TO CONTROL.
BRAD DOKKEN IN THE GRAND FORKS HERALD HAS A COLUMN ON THE DANGERS OF RUSHING TO BE SOME OF THE FIRST ANGLERS ONTO THE ICE FOR THE WINTER SEASON. NOTING, THE RISK JUST ISN’T WORTH IT. HE REMINDS THAT AT LEAST FOUR INCHES OF ICE IS RECOMMENDED FOR SAFE WALKING.
A STUDY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH SHOWS THAT MINNESOTA LAKES ON AVERAGE HAVE LOST FROM 10-14 DAYS OF ICE COVERAGE OVER THE PAST 50 YEARS. ICE IN HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 9 -10 DAYS LATER, AND ICE OUT 4-5 DAYS EARLIER. THEY STUDY IS LOOKING TO DETERMINE WHAT EFFECTS A SHORTER ICE COVER CAN MEAN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, WHILE STATING WE ALREADY KNOW THE ENVIRONMENTAL REASONS FOR SHORTER ICE COVERAGE.
THERE WILL BE AN INCREASED EMPHASIS PUT ON DWI ENFORCEMENT IN MINNESOTA, BEGINNING TODAY THROUGH NEW YEARS. NUMBERS PROVIDED SHOW THAT FROM 2019 TO 2023, THERE HAVE BEEN 664 ALCOHOL RELATED DRIVING DEATHS IN THE STATE. A REMINDER, THAT SIMILAR TO ALCOHOL, DRIVERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CONSUME CANNABIS OR OPEN ANY CANNABIS PACKAGING WHILE DRIVING.
SUPER SANTA SATURDAY IN ROSEAU IS NEXT WEEKEND, DECEMBER 7 AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. THAT WILL INCLUDE ARTS AND CRAFTS, COOKIE DECORATING, A FREE LUNCH, AND OF COURSE PICTURES WITH SANTA AND MRS CLAUS BY THE FIREPLACE. THERE WILL ALSO BE A FREE MOVIE AT THE ROSO THEATER AT 1:30 PM, SHOWING BEETHOVEN’S CHRISTMAS ADVENTURE. THE EVENT BEGINS AT 10 AM.
THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CUT YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS TREE, WHILE MAKING A DONATION TO THE MALUNG COMMUNITY CENTER. THE TREES WOULD COME FROM MITCHELL AND DAWN JOHNSON’S FOR A MINIMUM DONATION OF $30. THIS COULD BE DONE THIS SATURDAY OR SUNDAY FROM 10A-4P.
