A MINNESOTA STATE AUDITOR’S REPORT FOR 2018 SAYS MUNICIPAL LIQUOR STORES IN THE STATE HAD A 23RD STRAIGHT YEAR OF RECORD SALES.
THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAD JUST OVER ONE-POINT-EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS IN SALES AT IT’S LIQUOR STORE IN 2018, WITH A PROFIT OF NEARLY 197 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THAT PROFIT MARGIN INCREASED IN 2019.
WARROAD’S “MUNI” HAD SALES SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN ROSEAU’S (ABOUT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS) AND 124 THOUSAND IN PROIFTS.
IN BAUDETTE, THE PROFIT FOR 2018 WAS 193 THOUSAND DOLLARS.
NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN FOR THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS COUNCIL OF THE YEAR AWARDS.
THOSE AWARDS INCLUDE THE ARTIST OF THE YEAR; THE ARTS ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR; AND THE NORTHWEST STAR AWARD, FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT.
ROSEAU AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL COACH JOSH WECKMAN WAS AT LAST WEEK’S ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETING, SEEKING SUPPORT FOR HIS EFFORTS TO HOST THE 2022 STATE AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL TOURNAMENT IN ROSEAU.
WECKMAN SAID THAT TOURNAMENT, WHICH IS HELD IN LATE JULY, WOULD BRING HUNDREDS OF TEAMS AND FANS.
THE CITY COUNCIL RESOLVED TO SUPPORT THE APPLICATION EFFORT.
THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS THIS EVENING.
THEY CONTINUE WORKING ON A MAY BOND REFERENDUM, WHICH WOULD PROVIDE MORE THAN THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS FOR UPGRADES TO A BUILDING THAT HAS SOME PORTIONS THAT WERE BUILT IN THE 1930’S.
GREG CROWE, WITH EHLERS AND ASSOCIATES (THE SCHOOL DISTRICT’S FINANCIAL ADVISORS) SAYS THEY’RE ESTIMATING A FOUR PERCENT BOND; BUT EXPECT THAT NUMBER WOULD BE LOWER.
NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTANS WITH IDEAS TO STRENGTHEN THEIR COMMUNITIES CAN APPLY FOR FUNDING THROUGH THE NORTHWEST REGIONAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP.

THE STATE OF VIRGINIA, LAST MONTH, BECAME THE 38TH (AND FINAL) STATE NEEDED TO ADOPT THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION; ALTHOUGH LEGAL CHALLENGES ARE EXPECTED.

MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ, LAST WEEK, ANNOUNCED A PRIMARY AGRICULTURAL DISASTER DESIGNATION FOR SEVEN COUNTIES, INCLUDING KITTSON, MARSHALL AND BELTRAMI.
THAT’S FOR MULTIPLE DISASTERS IN AUGUST AND NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR.
