THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, LAST WEEK, OFFERED A LETTER OF SUPPORT AND A FINANCIAL PLEDGE TOWARD THE PROPOSED ROSEAU TO WARROAD RAIL TRAIL PROJECT.
THAT ABANDONED RAILBED IS OWNED BY THE ROSEAU COUNTY TRAILBLAZERS, AND THE PROJECT WOULD CREATE A MULTI-USE TRAIL FOR MOTORIZED VEHICLES AND FOR BIKERS AND HIKERS.
WARROAD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IS SEEKING MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION GRANT MONEY FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THAT RAILBED.

 

THE MINNESOTA D.N.R. HAS A REGIONAL TRAIL GRANT PROGRAM, AND A LOCAL TRAIL CONNECTION GRANT PROGRAM.
THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAS APPLIED FOR THAT GRANT FUNDING IN PAST YEARS.
DAN GOLNER, A GRANTS SPECIALIST COORDINATOR FOR THE D.N.R., SAYS THERE IS A PURPOSE FOR THAT MONEY
THE REGIONAL TRAIL GRANT PROGRAM IS ONLY FOR REGIONALLY SIGNIFICANT TRAILS OUTSIDE THE SEVEN COUNTY METRO AREA.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS ADDED FIFTY-THREE NEW CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 OVER THE PAST TWO WEEKS, WITH MOST OF THOSE LAST WEEK.
THAT’S AN UPTICK AFTER LESS THAN SEVENTY NEW CASES IN THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JANUARY.
THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS ROSEAU COUNTY HAS HAD 1722 CORONAVIRUS CASES SINCE LAST APRIL, AND SEVENTEEN DEATHS.
AROUND THE REGION – THERE HAVE BEEN 21 COVID-RELATED DEATHS IN KITTSON COUNTY; 16 IN PENNINGTON; AND 15 DEATHS IN MARSHALL COUNTY SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN LAST SPRING.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD, LAST WEEK, APPROVED THE HIRE OF DANI GUNDERSON AS SWIMMING POOL SUPERVISOR.
SHE’S A FORMER TEAM ‘EPIC’ COORDINATOR, AND AN ASSISTANT COACH FOR THE NORTH SWIMMING COOPERATIVE.

273 SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE BEEN AWARDED OVER THE PAST FOURTEEN YEARS, WITH NEARLY SIX-POINT-EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS GRANTED.

 

MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM WALZ IS ASKING FOR A FORTY CENT INCREASE IN THE WATERCRAFT REGISTRATION FEE.
FUNDING FROM THAT FEE GOES TOWARD AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROLS.
SOME REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS SAY THE D.N.R. ALREADY HAS A CLIMATE CHANGE FOCUS; BUT BOB MEYER, WITH THE D.N.R., SAYS HIS AGENCY BACKS THE PLAN.
