A LETTER TO THE EDITOR, PUBLISHED IN THE ROSEAU TIMES REGION, CITES A REPORT FROM THE INSTITUTE FOR JUSTICE SAYING THAT THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT AND MINNESOTA DNR UNDERESTIMATED THE COST OF THE ROSEAU LAKE PROJECT IN IT’S INITIAL ESTIMATES BY AS MUCH AS $2.4 MILLION AND THAT FLOODING RISK WAS MISCALCULATED. THAT ROSEAU LAKE PROJECT HAS BEEN CONTENTIOUS BETWEEN THE RRWD AND DNR AND THE ROSEAU COUNTY LANDOWNERS COALITION.
AT A RECENT ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETING, THEY RENEWED AN AGREEMENT WITH AIRMEDCARE TO PROVIDE AIR MEDICAL SERVICES.
THE MINNESOTA DNR RECENTLY WRAPPED UP IT’S AERIAL ELK SURVEY OF NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA HERDS AND THE HERD IN SOUTHERN MANITOBA. RESULTS OF THOSE SURVEYS WILL BE AVAILABLE LATER THIS WINTER.
A WINTERFEST, ORGANIZED BY THE ROSEAU CIVIC & COMMERCE, WILL BE HELD THIS SATURDAY WITH INDOOR AND OUTDOOR EVENTS. THE BLAZING STARS FIGURE SKATING CLUB ALSO HAS A PERFORMANCE ON SUNDAY.
THE NORTHWEST ANGLE EDGERIDERS SNOW RALLY IS SATURDAY AT JERRY’S RESTAURANT AND BAR.
A FIREARMS SAFETY CLASS IS BEING OFFERED IN ROSEAU IN EARLY MARCH, AND THERE IS A PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE OF FEBRUARY 28TH. TO PRE-REGISTER AND FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SEE COAST TRUE VALUE IN ROSEAU.
THE CROOKSTON SCHOOL BOARD VOTED TO SUSPEND THEIR SEARCH FOR A NEW SUPERINTENDENT UNTIL THE FALL. THEY HAD RECEIVED THREE CANDIDATES, AND THE MINNESOTA SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDED ONE OF THEM. HOWEVER, THAT PERSON HAD SINCE TAKEN ANOTHER JOB. THE BOARD DIDN’T FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH ONLY TWO APPLICANTS, AND FELT A SHORT EXTENSION OF THE DEADLINE WOULDN’T RESULT IN ENOUGH ADDITIONAL INTEREST.
