LAST WEEK WAS A FIVE DAY FILING PERIOD FOR ANYONE WHO WANTED TO RUN TO FILL THE NOW-VACANT ROSEAU COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 1 SEAT, CAUSED BY THE DEATH OF JOHN HORNER. THOSE PEOPLE WILL RUN IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION AND ASSUME THAT POSITION IN JANUARY. NOW, THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD IS SEEKING APPLICATIONS FROM THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN FILLING THAT SEAT UNTIL THE END OF THIS YEAR. THE QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL WOULD BE APPOINTED TO THE POSITION. APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL FRIDAY, JUNE 24. THE COUNTY BOARD WILL THEN HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING ON TUESDAY, JUNE 28 TO ALLOW THE PUBLIC OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE INPUT ON PROSPECTIVE APPOINTEES.

IN NOVEMBER ELECTIONS, ROSEAU COUNTY ATTORNEY KRISTI KJOS WILL RUN OPPOSED. TWO MEMBERS HOLDING SEATS IN WATER AND SOIL WILL RUN UNOPPOSED. COUNTY COMMISSIONER FOR DISTRICT 3 ROGER FALK DID NOT FILE FOR RE-ELECTION; BRENT WALSH, JOE TESAREK, AND LEVI NOVACEK ALL FILED FOR THAT POSITION. ROSEAU COUNTY DISTRICT 5 COMMISSIONER DARRYL WICKLUND WILL RUN UNOPPOSED. MELISSA GUST FILED FOR TREASURER AND JUDGE DONNA DIXON FILED FOR ANOTHER SIX YEAR TERM. ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF STEVE GUST WILL FACE OPPOSITION FROM CURRENT DEPUTY SHERIFF KELLY GUSTAFSON.

A POLK COUNTY FAMILY IN FISHER TOWNSHIP RECEIVED A SCARE YESTERDAY AND REPORTED A 20-MONTH OLD CHILD MISSING. IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE CHILD HAD LIKELY WANDERED OFF INTO A WOODED AREA NEAR THE PROPERTY. LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIRST RESPONDERS FOUND THE CHILD IN A FIELD ABOUT A QUARTER MILE FROM THE RESIDENCE. THE CHILD WAS CHECKED, WAS UNHARMED, AND REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY.

THIS THURSDAY IS THE FIRST OF THE SUMMER CONCERTS AT ROSEAU’S RIVERVIEW PARK GAZEBO. THIS WEEK, THE NIGHTHAWK BANK WILL PERFORM AND THE ALS FOUNDATION WILL SERVE A FUNDRAISING MEAL. THE CONCERTS ARE FREE AND BEGIN AT 6:30.

CROOKSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL HOLD A COMMUNITY MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT A REFFEREDNUM TO CONSTRUCT A MULTI-USE FACILITY FOR THE DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY. GETTING IT PASSED WOULD SOLVE CURRENT ISSUES WITH LEASING FACILITIES FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA-CROOKSTON. THE PROPOSAL WOULD INCLUDE AN ARTIFICIAL TURF FIELD, EIGHT LANE TRACK, PRESS BOX, NEW GRAND STAND, ALONG WITH CONCESSIONS AND BATHROOMS.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR SUSAN HANSON OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD TUESDAY (11 AM) AT MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU WITH VISITATION AN HOUR PRIOR. THERE WILL ALSO BE VISITATION ON MONDAY EVENING (5-7 PM) WITH A 7:00 PRAYER SERVICE. INTERMENT WILL BE AT HOPE CEMETERY IN ROSEAU. SUE HANSON WAS 69.
