YESTERDAY’S GRAND FORKS HERALD HAS AN EDITORIAL CASTIGATING U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION FOR IT’S REFUSAL TO REINSTATE HOURS OF OPERATION AT THE ROSEAU AND LANCASTER PORTS OF ENTRY.
C. B.P. SAID IN A LETTER THAT IT HAD RECEIVED NO COMPLAINTS AFTER REDUCED HOURS AT THE PORTS WENT INTO EFFECT; THAT DESPITE TOWN HALL MEETINGS AND A TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D.C. BY ROSEAU AND MANITOBA OFFICIALS.
7TH DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN COLLIN PETERSON SAYS C.B.P.’S “ARROGANCE TOWARD PEOPLE LIVING IN RURAL AREAS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED”.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETS THIS EVENING.
AMONG OTHER BUSINESS, THEY’RE EXPECTED TO CONSIDER CHANGES TO THE CITY’S LEAF BURNING ORDINANCE.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY 4H SUMMER CAMP ADVENTURES START THIS AFTERNOON AT THE GREENBUSH COMMUNITY CENTER.
NEXT WEEK’S CAMP, FOR ELEMENTARY-AGED KIDS, IS AT THE ROSEAU CITY PARK.

 

ROSEAU PARKS AND RECREATION HAS FISHING CAMP FOR KIDS AGED SEVEN TO FOURTEEN TOMORROW MORNING (9:30 to Noon) AT THE ROSEAU CITY PARK FISHING PIER.

 

ROSEAU COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON TOLD THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY LAST WEEK THAT HE’S CONTACTED SEVERAL PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNERS WITHIN CITY LIMITS, TO GAUGE THEIR INTEREST IN SELLING LAND TO THE CITY FOR A POTENTIAL HOUSING SUBDIVISION.
PETERSON TOLD THE CITY COUNCIL LAST MONTH THERE ARE VERY FEW BUILDING LOTS AVAILABLE IN THE CITY. PETERSON ESTIMATED THE COST OF INFRASTRUCTURE (WATER, SEWER AND ROAD) AT SIXTEEN TO EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS PER LOT.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, LAST WEEK, APPROVED ADVERTISING TO HIRE A SOCIAL WORKER TO REPLACE NICOLE LEWIS, WHO’S RESIGNED.

 

A NUMBER OF FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS ARE PLANNED FOR THIS SUMMER AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL,
INCLUDING RE-SURFACING THE PARKING LOT AND TENNIS COURTS; INSTALLING HANDRAILS AT THE SCHOOL THEATRE; PAINTING AT THE ELEMENTARY GYM; AND RE-SIDING THE RAMS SPORTS CENTER LOCKERROOMS.

 

87% OF ALL CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE WERE PLACED WITH FAMILIES IN 2017; THAT’S A FOURTEEN PERCENT INCREASE FROM TEN YEARS PREVIOUS.
JENNIFER BERTRAM, WITH KIDS COUNT AT THE CHILDRENS DEFENSE FUND/MINNESOTA, SAYS RAISING CHILDREN IS A DIFFICULT JOB; BUT SHE SAYS STATE PROGRAMS AND POLICIES COULD BE IMPROVED TO MAKE IT EASIER.
NATIONALLY, 95% OF KIDS AGED TWELVE AND YOUNGER WERE PLACED WITH FAMILIES IN 2017; BUT JUST 58% OF CHILDREN AGED THIRTEEN AND OLDER.
