THE REMOTE AREA BORDER CROSSING PROGRAM, WHICH ALLOWS PEOPLE TO CROSS INTO CANADA WITHOUT PASSING THROUGH A STAFFED STATION IN SOME REMOTE AREAS INCLUDING THE NORTHWEST ANGLE AND OTHER PARTS OF LAKE OF THE WOODS BORDERING CANADA, IS PAUSING IT’S ACCEPTANCE OF PERMITS AND RENEWAL APPLICATIONS. THE PROGRAM ITSELF HOWEVER IS NOT SUSPENDED. A TIMELINE FOR RESUMING THAT PROCESS WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE.

BOTH STEVE SHAND AND HARI PATEL WERE FOUND GUILTY OF HUMAN SMUGGLING AFTER THE JURY DELIBERATED FOR LESS THAN A DAY. NO SENTENCING DATE WAS SET.

TWO PEOLE LOOKING TO OEPRATE CANNABIS BUSINESSES IN MINNESOTA ARE NOW SUING OVER THEIR DISQUALIFICATION FROM A LOTTERY THAT IS TO BE HELD TOMORROW. THEY SAY THEIR DISQUALIFICATIONS WERE ARBITRARY AND THEY WERE NOT GIVEN THOROUGH EXPLANATION. THERE ARE 282 LICESNES THAT WILL TO WHAT ARE CALLED SOCIAL EQUITY APPLICANTS, THOSE ARE MILITARY VETERANS, THOSE THAT WOULD SERVE IMPOVERISHED AREAS. THERE WERE INITIALLY ABOUT 1800 APPLICANTS, BUT AFTER DISQUALIFCATIONS, A LITTLE OVER 600 WERE TO GO INTO THE LOTTERY.

THE WARROAD SCHOOL BOARD HAS HIRED OUTSIDE ATTORNEY’S TO INVESTIGATE CLAIMS OF POSSIBLE ETHICS VIOLATIONS BY MEMBERS OF THE WARROAD SCHOOL BOARD. DETAILS OF SAID CLAIMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

ON THANKSGIVING DAY, NORTHLAND ASSEMBLY OF BADGER WILL BE SERVING A COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER FROM NOON TO 6 PM AT HTE BADGER COMMUNITY HALL. TAKE OUT IS ALSO AVAILABLE. THAT IS A TRADITIONAL THANKSGIVING MEAL, NO COST, WITH A FREEWILL OFFERING BEING ACCEPTED.

THE UNITED FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH OF GREENBUSH INVITES EVERYONE TO A FREE THANKSGIVING MEAL ON THANKSGIVING DAY AS WELL. THEY WILL SERVE FROM 11:00-1:00. THEY OFFER DELIVERY TO CERTAIN AREAS. CALL 218-782-2249.

A COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING IS FRIDAY IN ROSEAU. THE TREE WILL BE IN IT’S USUAL SPOT ALONG HIGHWAY 11, NEAR CAROL’S CEDAR CELLAR.

BEGINNING FRIDAY, THE ROSEAU CIVIC & COMMERCE IS BACK WITH THEIR HOLIDAY FANTASY PROMOTION. THEY’LL HAVE WEEKLY PRIZES OF $300 AND $100 IN ROSEAU DOUGH ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF GIFT CARDS WINNERS.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joe Biskup of Warroad, MN will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Joe passed away at the age of 86.
