THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, THIS WEEK, HELD IT’S REQUIRED TRUTH-IN-TAXATION MEETING, TO ALLOW RESIDENT INPUT ON THE PROPOSED 2022 COUNTY LEVY AND BUDGET. FOUR PEOPLE ATTENDED, ALL WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR PROPERTY VALUATIONS.
THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED AN OFF-SALE LIQUOR LICENSE FOR THE FICKLE PICKLE RESTAURANT IN WANNASKA. THE BOARD PREVIOUSLY APPROVED AN ON-SALE LIQUOR LICENSE FOR THE FORMER CAFÉ 89.
THE DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARDED 14 GRANTS TO MINNESOTA COMMUNITIES TO INCREASE SUPPLY OF CHILD CARE. THE FUNDS CAN BE USED TO IMPROVE OR BUILD FACILITIES, ALONG WITH TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. THE GRANTS TOTAL ROUGHLY $2.5 MILLION. LOCATIONS IN WARREN, FOSSTON, AND BEMIDJI WERE INCLUDED WITHIN THE RECIPIENTS.
WINTER TRUCK LOAD INCREASES BEGIN SATURDAY IN THE NORTH FROST ZONE ON RESTRICTED STATE HIGHWAYS. VEHICLES CAN OPERATE UP TO 10 PERCENT OVER THE STANDARD LEGAL MAXIMUM LOAD DURING THAT PERIOD.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR PHYLLIS WALSH OF BADGER WILL BE HELD SATURDAY (10:30 AM) AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN BADGER. VISITATION WILL BE TOMORROW (6 PM) AT THE CHURCH, WITH A PRAYER SERVICE AT 7:00 AND HOLY ROSARY TO FOLLOW. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE ONE HOUR PRIOR ON SATURDAY. INTERMENT SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CEMETERY IN BADGER FOLLOWING THE SERVICES. PHYLLIS WALSH WAS 80.
THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA-CROOKSTON IS CONTINUING TO EXPLORE SOLUTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO MURALS PAINTED WITHIN IT’S AUDITORIUM THAT DATE BACK TO 1942. THE MURALS HAVE COME UNDER SCRUTINY FOR DEPICTING STEREOTYPICAL NATIVE AMERICAN IMAGERY, ALONG WITH ANOTHER THAT DEPICTS OUR NORDIC HISTORY. THE SCHOOL SAYS IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO REMOVE THEM, BUT FINDING A WAY TO USE THEM IN AN EDUCATIONAL WAY IS THEIR GOAL.
FOUR GRAND FORKS ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WERE HONORED YESTERDAY BY POLICE IN GRAND FORKS FOR THEIR ROLE IN STOPPING A KIDNAPPING BACK IN JULY. THE CHILDREN WERE PLAYING IN THE ALLEY BEHIND THEIR HOME, WHEN A MAN SNATCHED A 6 YEAR OLD GIRL AND BEGAN TO DRIVE AWAY. THE OTHER CHILDREN WENT HOME, AND THEN WERE ABLE TO GIVE A GOOD ENOUGH DESCRIPTION OF THE MAN, THE CAR, AND LISCENSE PLATE TO HAVE THE MAN IDENTIFIED JUST A SHORT TIME LATER. THE CHILDREN WERE GIVEN PLAQUES AND A DAIRY QUEEN GIFT CARD.
THERE IS LIVE MUSIC AT THE GAZEBO THIS SUNDAY, BEGINNING AT 4 PM WITH LOCAL MUSICIANS AND CAROLING.
